I'm wanting to start a blog so I started using Genesis/Streamline today. I am basically new to WordPress.org and completely knew to Genesis, etc. I don't know what HTML, CSS, PHP are (this shows my ignorance I'm sure!). Should I try something that is much simpler (if something exist?).

I'm confused about it all. I don't know how to change my theme colors, make an ebook downloadable for my email list, etc. Can any of you seasoned users give me some direction?

    Thanks so much!

    The Rookie,

    Justin

Everyone at some point was a rookie, and I'm sure that everyone at some point felt like they were in over their head, so what you're feeling is perfectly normal!

Anyway, to get you started, you should probably download the Genesis Guide for Absolute Beginners - it might make you feel a little more comfortable with playing around with your theme.

    You can download it here:

Thanks for the encouragement Susan, I'm making a little progress now! What would be a good follow up resource after I digest the information you linked to?

I recommend subscribing to Brian Gardner's blog: http://www.briangardner.com/  Brian is the creator of StudioPress, and he has cool code snippets/hints.

Bill Erickson is an invaluable resource, too: http://www.billerickson.net/

I will come back with some other resources to get you going, but in the meantime, even just reading some of the posts around here will help you.

Thank you Susan! I'm very thankful for your help and insight! I'm starting to get a feel for things. I still have much to learn though. For example, I'm planning on having an ebook (Grow-A Practical Guide for New Christians) available for subscribers to my email list. I'm considering Premise or Mailchimp. I'm not sure yet. Just one of many things I need to tackle!

I upload my logo and it covers the entire header. How can I reduce it?

    Welcome Justin.

For all requests for help, moderators and community members will be able to help you far easier if you share your site URL - competent folks will be able to dive into the styles on your site and be able to give a much more accurate solution.

Hang in there jgentry!!! I was the same way, but you will pick things up very fast. Once you do, it's extremely rewarding 🙂

If you have photoshop, I'd suggest creating a custom header using your theme's header dementions. That way you can just upload it ready to go. (Always 'save for web' as well, large images are one of the largest problems resulting in slow sites)

Hope this helps a little bit!

    Cheers!
