AnnamarieParticipant
Hi,
I feel your pain.
So at the bottom of your child theme - I'm also using Genesis sample - somewhere around line 2778 (I do have customizations so it might be above that) there is a Section commented out that says #Media Queries - everything after this is for making your site responsive! There's lots to learn here.
Make sure your code goes above that section. You might also want to put it in the Search section.
Good luck!
AnnamarieParticipantHi,
Found this because I too am wanting the dashicon. And am a bit frustrated at making it work. I'm a beginner in Genesis and not a professional web person.
I can hardly believe I have anything to help you .. but I do.
I've learned that in Genesis it's always a good idea to put your new code above the media queries which are at the end of your child theme styles.css. (Contrary to my experience with Thesis.) I've also learned (someone can correct me if I'm wrong) that it's a really good idea to put your customizations in the right place in the css file. Follow the table of contents. I don't know why that is.
Having said that - I'll try to learn from your code to see if I can get this to work. : )
THanks
AnnamarieAnnamarieParticipantInteresting. Thanks for sticking with me and assuring me it looks good for you. It seems to have resolved on my Safari.
On to the next battle! : ) (It would be so much easier if this is the only thing I did in my life.)
Annamarie
AnnamarieParticipantYes, your screenshot looks great. Looks fine on Chrome. But not on Safari .. here is screenshot.
(Hope that link works..)AnnamarieParticipantThat was fast! You must be on the other side of the ocean. No coder is up at this hour EDT!
I DID the text centering.. there's something funky about the text box spacing on each of the widgets. They aren't the same size. WHY?
AnnamarieParticipantWell I almost told you to eat your hat then I realized I wasn't connected to the server. D'oh. Still the spacing is off. And I'm thinking I'd be better off using a simple footer. Now to go try that!
Thanks.
AnnamarieParticipantI believe the only change I made was to bottom padding.. I think I've reverted to the vanilla version. It looks strange..
Ideas?
AnnamarieParticipantHi there. Thanks for responding. I changed it in an attempt to get the spacing. I thought I was being clever using footer widgets. I'm rethinking. Think I should put my links in a simple footer. Right?
AnnamarieParticipantLovely. Thanks. I've bookmarked. And yes it solved my problem. : )
AnnamarieParticipantThank you Jamie and Brock! Both ideas work well with each other and solve my problem. I was beginning to suspect coding on my full-size site. : )
AnnamarieParticipantThanks! That code works beautifully. I know this is an old post.. but maybe someone will see this and tell me how to style the "Read More"..?
AnnamarieParticipantOMG! Many thanks.
Nothing like figuring out how to ask the right question.
It did work.
AnnamarieParticipant@davinder - Yes, I think some crazy thesis thing is going on. The images are all in the library.
@brock - good hint. I'm not much of a PHP coder. I too found the code canyon plug-in. I'm not sure what the dangers are of trying it?What's interesting is many of the images ARE showing up - just not all of them.
AnnamarieParticipantThanks for writing, but that doesn't make sense?? All my images ARE the same size. i always made them in PS and uploaded them. Are you suggesting that different sizes would cause some not to show up?
Thanks,
AnnamarieParticipantI know. 37 people bought it and the 5 commenters were unhappy with it. Were 32 people completely happy?
I'm a little nervous about using it if it does mess things up.Went to Backup Buddy my site and that 's not working right... ah...
AnnamarieParticipantHi,
I've got the same problem. Did you use it? What did you do?
AnnamarieParticipantThanks for help.
@savvyjackie - the hint about the ul did help. When I separated it - my bullet points did what I wanted. But the p tag doesn't. Bottom of the file doesn't work either.
@emasai - it's just not working. And I'm doing local dev so this nit will have to wait until I get it on the net.AnnamarieParticipantHi Christoph,
Thanks for replying. I'm up in the middle of the night because I'm bugged by this.
I'm saying the latter. I'm running MAMP on my MacBook Air. I've got the style.css file open in TextWrangler (I also tried Brackets) I save the file, in Safari go to the http://localhost:8888 address, refresh and the change is not there. Asking about clearing caches was a good suggestion. I've just made sure I've done that. No dice.
This must be a case of my not understanding CSS cascade?
In the style.css file for the child theme there is this code:
h1,
h2,
h3,
h4,
h5,
h6 {
color: #222;
font-family: 'Droid Sans', sans-serif;
font-weight: 300;
line-height: 1.2;
margin: 0 0 24px;
}I deleted the color line. Put my
h2 {
color: #1c6Ba4;
}
right below it and it didn't work.When I go in and change the color for all the h tags like this:
h1,
h2,
h3,
h4,
h5,
h6 {
color: #1c6Ba4;
font-family: 'Droid Sans', sans-serif;
font-weight: 300;
line-height: 1.2;
margin: 0 0 24px;
}That works!
WHY????
Thanks for the help..
AnnamarieParticipantOMG! I *KNEW* is had to be something stupid I was doing. Just goes to show how a little bit of knowledge can be dangerous. never know that "is_home" referred to the posts. Sigh! Well it's working now, many, many thanks. I've learned a lot poking about trying to understand hooks and figure out what was wrong.
All better.
Thanks!
AnnamarieParticipantHmm... I keep wondering if there's something really basic that I'm not doing?
Neither suggestion worked: The removing of the divs (you meant in the code the functions.php file yes?)
Nor hooking the text with anything else. I think I'm not picking up the page - and that's because I called it something different than blog? I've put in a trouble ticket with Studio Press, referencing this conversation.
Thanks for help!
