    Hi

    I am getting a little bit tied up in knots and wondered how I would start a new theme. I have been using the genesis sample theme but need some help.

    For instance most Genesis themes have a standard layout:
    Header
    side side content etc...
    Footer

    I want to create
    header side/Content
    Footer

    When I tried to do this with css it didn't work. Do I press on with css or should I start a new theme please?

    Thanks

    Rich

    What you want is one of the six built-in configurations. It is the sidebar-content configuration. Depending on your theme, it may have been deactivated in functions.php by the theme developer. You can always re-enable it again.

    Thanks Brad. I wish I could find a tutorial on how to build a theme from scratch.

    For instance if somebody could tell me how to move the site-title from where it is to the space just above the post-header that would be a start!

    Thanks for all the help.

    It's hooked in so you can unhook it and re-hook to another hook position.

    Line 673 genesis > lib > structure > header.php

    add_action( 'genesis_site_title', 'genesis_seo_site_title' );
