I've tried several shortcode plugins, and recently started using 'ultimate shortcodes' (free):

WP Shortcodes Plugin — Shortcodes Ultimate

I like it a lot. I welcome some other recommendation (free or premium). Yes, there are tons (like the premium choices at codecanyon), that's why I'm calling on the group to help narrow down the field. Thanks in advance.

I use Symple Shortcodes on several of my sites: http://www.wpexplorer.com/symple-shortcodes/

    Andrea (nutsandbolts):

Thanks for your recommendation re: Symple Shortcodes. I checked it out and really like it, especially for the social icons, accordion, toggle, and tabs. I notice this is an unsupported free plugin. I was wondering if you know how to modify the shortcode for accordion so a page opens with all elements closed, instead of with the first element open? It would also be nice to be able to configure the toggle so that when one element is opened it closes another element already open, i.e. so that only one element is open at a time.

Any ideAs how to do this?, or where i can turn for help? Thanks.

I think with the accordion something always has to be open - you can achieve the same goal by using a series of toggles placed one after the other. Look at the toggles vs. accordions on this example page: http://wpexplorer-demos.com/symple-shortcodes/
