Hi there,
I am using the the Genesis sample theme and am quite happy with it at the moment.
The only thing that is currently lacking is a full-width slider on the front page that stretches across the complete browser window.
I've already tried a couple of things, such as
- * placing the slider in the site-header. However, that way the slider appears on all pages, and I just want it to appear on the front page. There might be a solution with using code in the functions.php, but I am not experienced enough to get it done by myself. Plus, I assume that will break the header height on other pages as well (even if the slider is not displayed there).
- * placing the slider in a container below the header. But that failed because I wasn't able to create a section that would again not display on all pages/posts.
- * placing the slider before content. However, that limits the size of the slider to that of the content-sidebar-wrap and therefore appears smaller, plus there are white margins left and right. Not my preferred solution, although this is currently the option I have opted for.
I was wondering if there was another solution that I haven't thought of. Maybe by means of a plugin?
Any help appreciated.

This is where the home page code is located. Unfortunately, the Genesis sample theme doesn't have a front-page.php file. It is only meant to demonstrate the flexibility of the Genesis Framework and is the most basic of child themes. It doesn't have the bells and whistles found in premium themes. If you're going to use the Genesis sample theme as a base, you've got a lot of work ahead of you to accomplish what you want to do. You've got to create a front-page.php, register the front page widget areas in functions.php, and create all of the required CSS.
When I have a customer that wants a full-width slider, the Epik theme is my go to starter. It already has a full-width slider widget area built-in, so the coding is all done for you.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?March 31, 2016 at 6:19 am #182582tipapMemberThank you for your kind help, Victor.
I've heard about the use of front-page.php before, but I am simply not skilled enough to accomplish this myself. So that's not a solution for the moment.
But I'll take a closer look at the Epik theme you've mentioned. Maybe that's going to solve my problem.
Thanks again.
