I would like to have a second Front Page 3 - Top and Front Page 3 - Bottom Widget area in my site

How can I copy a widget area and call it Front Page 3b

I just need to get some more content on the home page and having another widget area would be ideal

Widget areas are registered in functions.php. The actual function is genesis_register_sidebar. You'll see all the widget areas for your theme starting around line 237. Just copy one and rename it. This will display the new widget area on the WordPress Admin widgets screen.

To display the widget on the front page, you have to edit front-page.php, specifically the spi_home_widget_loop() function around line 58. You'll see the code for displaying each widget area. Insert your new widget area code in the position you want it to display.

You also need to edit the if statement at line 17.

If you're not familiar with editing PHP files, don't use the WordPress editor to make these changes. The slightest error in PHP coding will bring down your site and you won't be able to recover it without using FTP. Use FTP in the first place and a text editor on your computer to make these changes.

Here's a tutorial that may help. I wrote it for the News Pro theme, but the process is the same for all Genesis themes. https://victorfont.com/add-widget-areas-to-news-pro-theme/
