Page with posts and featured photo in AgentPress

I'd like to have a page that contains post excerpts as well as a featured image with them. I started out creating a category page, but decided that's not what I want, because I want to add other items on that page. Next, I tried a plugin and that seems to be working okay, but I'm wondering if that's how I should be doing it or is there a different/better way?

Also, I'd like to have a featured image with each post and that's not working. I added a featured image to each post and tested it with the category page, blog page, and also the plugin page and none of them show the featured image. What am I doing wrong?

Today I tried changing the template "blog" and that made the images show up on the excerpts page, but the image does not show on the individual posts. Is this behavior supported in the AgentPress theme? Do I need to enable something?
