Hey all! I'd like to make some modifications to how Book content is displayed. I like it but I am missing having my regular sidebar. That part's ok, I can make a post template for that.

The problem is that the book meta takes up a lot of space on the right side. What I'd like to do is display the book meta (the cover, meta & all links) in the regular sidebar - which would let the book content take up the whole content area. Specifically, I'd like all the book meta above the regular sidebar, so the regular sidebar would appear below all the book meta.

This seems easier said than done, as single-books.php in the plugin's 'templates' folder is pretty sparse. My guess is that there's some php to output the meta, which I can convert to a shortcode with a function, and then add that to a widget that only appears on single book pages.

Anyone know what the php to output the book meta would be? Thanks in advance!

I see you posted on the plugin support page. I responded there, but will provide this here as well.

Someone else asked this question and the answer was provided here - https://wordpress.org/support/topic/add-sidebar-to-book-pages/.

As I mentioned on the plugin support page, I know how to do that. I want to move the book meta to a sidebar widget.

There must be a snippet to output the book meta to a widget - no one knows?

Meta content is generated and displayed within the WordPress loop. Sidebar content is not part of the loop, although you can run a different loop within a sidebar. It would require a significant amount of custom coding to display content from the main loop and have it appear in a sidebar. There is no easy answer.
