For a website I made with Executive Pro I have used a fairly new plugin - Ultimate Member - to create an member only part of that website. The portfolio CPT is now used to show an array of pictures publicly. Now I also need to display pictures in that fashion (two column page with cover photo's) in the member part.

    So, here's the problem:

When I add a portfolio page and set it to members only, the cover picture is still showing up. If your not logged in the message appears you have to sign in, which is correct. But I do not want the cover picture to appear on the public page. Trying to do this with portfolio-type is not working.

Can I use conditional code and what could that code be?

Or do I add a new and specific copy of the 'portfolio' CPT for use in the member part only?

Glad to hear any tips or suggestions.

What do you mean by cover picture?

You mean archive page thumbnail ( featured image )?

Yes, I do mean the archive page thumbnail, added as a featured image.

So you only want to remove the featured image from all archive pages?

Or do you want to remove the entire entry from all archives including the entry title?

No, I'm sorry if my explanation is unclear.

I just want to exclude certain portfolio-type posts from the publicly visible /portfolio/ page, and show those in the members only section of the website. Simular to the public portfolio page.

Hence my question about conditional code, something with 'exclude' by portfolio-type? Or is it best to duplicate and rename the portfolio CPT files and add them to the theme and functions.php as a new page template?

    Does this help explain it?

So you want to exclude the entire entry from the archive page for some posts.

A good membership plugin should enable you to do this.

You can't duplicate the cpt archives. You could create another for members.

Otherwise, you could use custom code to exclude posts from the CPT and TAX archives.

You can use is_user_logged_in with is_tax and is_post_type_archive

If you're not a coder, i suggest you find a plugin which includes this functionality.
