I'm fairly new to wordpress. Just purchased and installed Genesis and Sample Genesis.

I want a static front page, and I'd like it to have images arranged in two columns. (Would change to one column for mobile.) The images will be clickable (they will link to pages). Can I get some idea how best to get started with this?

Note, I am a programmer in languages like C++ and Python and have some HTML/CSS experience, so I don't mind getting my hands dirty if that's the best way to do it.

For columns, you would use column classes: https://my.studiopress.com/documentation/usage/genesis-features/use-content-column-classes/

For the rest, it's straight up HTML.

Another option is to create a front-page.php file

Then you can use CSS or PHP code to display your posts in columns.
