Hey guys,
I could really use some help. I purchased the genesis framework and have recently picked up coding.
I really want to challenge myself to design my personal child-theme for WordPress, however, I have no idea where to start.
I'm eager to learn and any criticism and advice from you guys would be super helpful.
My website is braderb.com and I would love to model after sites like rushkoff.com, sethgodin.com, and danielpink.com.
I want to be able to have a static homepage, with a page for blog, about me, contact. I want to be able to create a portfolio site for my work. If anyone could help me create something like this I would be so grateful.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this.
Brad

Have you requested your free website audit yet?May 8, 2016 at 6:17 pm #185234DerekMemberI am not sure how new that blog post is that Victor shared but I found something else that's more up-to-date I believe.
When the framework updates and even wordpress does an update, you may have to make a few tweaks to your theme to capitalize off the new changes. Not sure if that blog post has valid information.
StudioPress has a sorta basic beginners guide if you make sure you logged into your account. https://my.studiopress.com/docs/building-child-themes/
Study that and learn stuff and also check out these links to further improve your knowledge.
It's worth it to get this below from a very good Genesis Framework theme developer.
https://www.lynda.com/Genesis-tutorials/WordPress-Genesis-Building-Child-Themes-from-Scratch/421805-2.html (Not affiliate link, I google for the URL)
She has more courses that might interest you as well on her official blog. http://www.carriedils.com/courses/
Don't be in a rush to create your custom theme, take your time as you keep on learning you can keep tweaking things and come up with a beautiful design. I'm not a designer but long time ago when I had a forum before I sold it, I hired a designer and invested money into a custom design before I even went live with the forum. The long wait for the completed version was worth it.
Wait for more advice from members here as well. The more information you have the more knowledgeable you will be.

The Genesis Sample Theme....you can customize it, add pages, add .css and make it look totally different.
The second one to look at is this one:
Pretty good. Check it out.
