How to animate an element across both the main body and sidebar content?

The site I'm working on is using the Centric theme, and I know a thing or two about animation. One thing I have to figure out is how to simply move an animated GIF (might even be an HTML5 / JavaScripted animation) from right to left, over the main body content and into the sidebar area. This is going to be a cartoon character, walking across the web page(s), settling into the sidebar.

The only difficulty I'm having is getting this to happen from the main body content area to the sidebar area. I think these are 2 different files, with totally different limitations. There's a 'wall' between these two sections, if you know what I mean.

If anyone of you could advise me on this it would be much appreciated.
