"Full Width" Menu Bar

Hello and thank you in advance,

What is the trick to getting the menu bar to look like it is full width? If you look at this top of this forum page, the menu bar looks like it is full width, but the menu and the rest of the page is fixed...

Thank you for your quick response. Maybe I should be playing with a full-width Genesis theme. I am trying to come up with a site that structurally looks like this:

Honestly, I'd probably use the free Sample child theme. It gives you the best blank slate to customize but the menu is already full width. You can add a home.php (using any other theme's home.php as a template) to widgetize the homepage and make it easy to add blocks of content, or you could look at the Dynamik theme from Cobalt Apps - it has a homepage builder and lots of other tools that make it easy to customize.

The header, nav, and footer are full width, but the content area is based on a 960px grid.

I never realized you could have part of the theme be full width and other parts fixed. I guess that is what that first link you send is saying. I have some reading and research to do.

When you say use a home.php as a template, do you mean plop it into the Sample theme's directory, or simply use the code as a template?

Yes, you would just create a home.php customized however you want it to look. For example, the one I use on my business site has a full width widget area, a 3-column widget area, a 2-column one, then another full width with no grid loop. You can basically pick and choose what you want to include depending on your needs for the site (just be prepared for all the CSS that comes with it!)
