Hi there!
This is my first time posting - so I beg your pardon if I am somehow doing it wrong!
I'm loving the new theme 'centric'. Very cool.
One thing that I wish to emulate from the home page/widgets set up, is the background color blocks (full site width). Like my home page at http://www.thewellchoice.com.
I have being hunting around and hoping there is a way to just use a content-box and modify it so it goes right to the edge, but everything I have found and played with seems not quite right, or mucks up the mobile responsiveness of the site.
At the moment I'm just using content boxes, and they're doing the job (like here), but it just looks so much cooler if the box color goes right to the edge!
Does anyone have any ideas or can point me in the right direction?

What page and what hook position
You can use some of the code from your front-page.php file or create a new file and then use get template part however you would also need to use a custom field.
Otherwise, you can hand code new widget areas in your child themes functions file.

I want the option to do it on any created page within the content (genesis_entry_content).
From your answer it appears I have some more learning to do regarding php - I'm pretty noob...
I tried adding page widgets as per Andrea's handy post - they did work but not entirely with my theme (i.e when using widgets they don't seem to line up properly etc)
So is there no easy way to just do a content-box that goes right to the edges?

You can use custom fields with a shortcode or CSS boxes with HTML however you can only use them on pages where the div spans full width.
