I am using the Soliloquy slider because I noticed the Genesis slider plugin hasn't been updated in 2 years and isn't compatible with the current version of WP.

When I place the Soliloquy slider in the slider widget area, my static welcome page and sidebar disappears. Any idea why?

It just occurred to me that once I drop the slider into the widget area it's triggering the other widget areas in the theme instead of displaying the static page and sidebar.

I'm guessing I need to add some code so that it calls the static page and main sidebar after the slider. I've never done that before, but I'll try to figure it out. If anyone can offer help, that'd be great, but I think I'm now on the right track.

Someone on FB suggested inserting the slider into the static page itself. I feel silly for not thinking of that.

If you set the WordPress Admin Settings/Reading "Front page displays" to the static page, the widgetized front page shouldn't show at all, even if you've populated widgets. WordPress only loads front-page.php if "Front page displays" is set to "Your latest posts".

As for placing the slider above the content area for a specific page, you'll have to create your own widget area and hook it before the content area, perhaps in genesis_after_header. You would also have to wrap the code in a WordPress conditional so it only displays on the target page. If you are not a coder, it really is a whole lot easier to use the widgetized front page as designed.
