Essence Pro Child Theme Not Installing

I installed genesis but the child theme won't install. I get the following error message:

Broken Themes

The following themes are installed but incomplete.

Name Description
Essence Pro The parent theme is missing. Please install the "genesis" parent theme. Delete

What am I missing? Please help.

This error says you did not install the Genesis Framework. Something may have happened during the Genesis install that prevented it from installing completely. FTP into your site and delete the Genesis directory then reinstall Genesis. Once Genesis is installed, install the child theme.

Morning,

Try deleting and reinstalling the Genesis theme. While you won't activate the genesis theme, for the Genesis child theme to work the Genesis framework (theme) needs to be present in the themes directory.

To delete the Genesis framework, it can't be active or the parent of an active child theme. Switch to twentyseventeen or another non-Genesis theme.
From WP Admin => Appearance => Themes
Hover over Genesis Theme, select "Theme Details"
In lower right, select "Delete"

Note that if a Genesis child theme is active, "Delete" will not be displayed.

Or you can delete/install the Genesis framework (theme) via ftp.

The Genesis theme folder was named incorrectly.

Sometimes people do not get a zip file due to their computer setting, and /genesis/ gets renamed to a number of different thing (archive, genesis-2 etc..)

It has to be exactly /genesis/ because that is what the child theme is coded to look for.
