I added a Welcome Text widget to the Eleven40 theme per this post from Brian Gardner, but there's a larger amount of white space between the header and the widget text.

What should I add to the code to remove some of that space?

You need to reduce the height in this code:
```
#header {
    background: url("http://andyfogarty.com/wp-content/themes/eleven40/images/logo.png") no-repeat scroll 0 0 transparent;
    height: 200px;
    margin: 0 auto;
    max-width: 1140px;
    width: 100%;
}
```
