    Hi Everyone!

I had someone add a line to the bottom of the footer on this site, and they did it through the FTP files, Genesis Theme folder, Footer.php. I later realized that if you change anything in the Genesis Theme files that all customizations will be erased when Genesis is updated. Is there anyway around this, or is the only answer to just add the changes back if you update Genesis?

Also, was there any way to add a sentence to the bottom of the footer area by editing the child theme instead of editing the Genesis files? Please see bottom of footer: http://www.creativewordpressdesigns.com

Thank you so much for your help!

Changes should never be made to the Genesis Framework files for the very reason you cited. Changes are made to the child theme only, not the framework. There are many, many hooks built into the Genesis Framework that allow you to modify or filter content. You can find out more here: http://my.studiopress.com/snippets/.

You can also use the Genesis Simple Edits plugin to adjust the footer content. A third alternative is to use one of the many code clip plugins that are available today. These plugins store your code snippets so they persist across theme changes rather than having you edit the theme's functions file.

    Hi Victor,

Thanks so much for information. I will take a look at the link you sent and the code clip plugins you mentioned. Very helpful!

    Have a great day.
