Sorry for the confusing title. I'm developing a site with Genesis for the first time and using the Education Pro child theme. However, I was wondering what if I want to make child css/sass of the child theme itself? Is it better to just add it directly to the Education style.css file or make a separate one? Thanks!

You can do it in whatever manner is easier and best for you.

WordPress does not support grandchild themes. Making a child theme of a child theme won't work. You can copy the child theme and make a new theme out of it, but that's your choice.

You can modify the Education Pro theme anyway you want to make it your own. If you want to include sass, the do so. Child themes are not automatically updated, so any changes you make to the child theme is permanent. The entire purpose of a child theme is handle your customizations.

I would also look at the new HTML 5 child themes as Education Pro has been around for several years now.

Cool thanks for the input! Helps a lot.

Brad, which child themes are HTML5? how would I know? Which one is most similar to education pro?

The Education Pro child theme even if old is the best child theme for the project I'm working on. It's a local gov. (county) information site. Lots of links and basic info on the current drupal site.

The Education pro theme is an html5 theme except for some elements like the main slider don't respond well. Everything else scales up well on mobile. Will just need some tweaks I think and will be good for years to come at least for this kind of site.

If you are working on a government website, you should also be checking for accessibility. You should either code in the accessibility or add a plugin for that. Government sites need to be accessible.

The Studio Press developers added accessibility to the Genesis Framework quite some time ago. If your theme is not showing accessibility features, check the Studio Press code snippets for the PHP and CSS you need to activate the framework's accessibility features.

Most often, custom code will not include accessibility features. Use this site to test yours: http://wave.webaim.org/
