    Last year I changed the footer data by adding code to the footer in the function.php file.

    Now this year it is much simpler with the Genesis footer customization.

    My problem: I cannot remove the code in the function.php file. I have not been able to change the permissions to edit that file. And if it is not removed, the new Genesis customization cannot work.

    I have requested my site host to grant permission for this file and they say they cannot do that.

    Can anyone help me?

    With all the websites I manage, I've never heard of anyone locking functions.php from being changed. Changing functions.php is an integral part of managing any WordPress website.

    If you can't access and change permissions of the functions.php file through FTP, then it may be time for you to move to a new host.

    You also should be able to log in to your hosting account, go to File Manager and update the file there. Just make a copy of the file first.
