Changing featured posts thumbnail size in eleven40 Pro Theme

For starters, I know next to nothing about CSS!

What I want to do: Change the default thumbnail size in the featured posts from 270x100 to 300x200 for my website (https://northerncaliforniahikingtrails.com/blog/).

I Googled the issue and found a website that said I should enter this coding:

//* Add new featured image size
add_image_size( 'custom-size', 300, 200, TRUE );

When I paste this code into the eleven40 Customize: Additional CSS box and then hit Publish, I get this message:

“Unable to save due to 1 invalid setting.”

Can anyone help me with this? (Please keep in mind that I'm just a website owner trying to fix something on his own; I have not studied CSS and how to use it with WordPress.)

That is not CSS you're trying to paste. It is PHP. PHP is added to functions.php.

I suggest you hire a dev to help you with this. If you make a mistake editing PHP, you'll bring your site down.

I've found the eleven40 functions.php file.

Can I just paste the code in my original post at the end of the PHP file and then click save? If the site breaks, I can remove the code and get the functions.php file back the way it was originally.
