Yes, you can use the Genesis Framework with the Sample and any other reliable Genesis Child Theme. Keep in mind that if you decide to use another theme that is not a child theme of Genesis and you use snippets recommended for Genesis, those too may cause a problem. My personal preference is add snippets where indicated in the tutorials you use. I try to limit the number of actual plugins I use to avoid a lot of conflicts. That way if the snippet breaks, I can just open up the functions via FTP and remove it and then save it and everything is all good.
