I modified the sample code in the theme's setup instructions. However, there is too much space below the bold h6 headers. How can I reduce it? I've tried customizing the child's css in several ways but nothing worked so far.

The spacing is coming from badly formed HTML. You have a closing paragraph tag without a corresponding opening tag and you have a line break as the first element of the span.
