I added two blocks of text to my Shop page, to appear before the products. The first is "A collection of cards for every season" and the second is a list of links to category pages. Neither is appearing in my published Shop page, even though they appear in the file. I have disabled all plugins except woo commerce.

    Any thoughts?

The shop page is generated by the WooCommerce shortcode, which uses a WooCommerce template. Any content you add to a page generated from a shortcode has to be added to the template. This is normal behavior. Google for how to override WooCommerce templates.

This question has been asked before here on the forums. There is a search box at the top of the forum home page that you can use to search.

Here is the link where I provided a resource for this here - https://studiopress.community/topic/text-on-shop-page-doesnt-display-after-updating-essence-pro/.

As Victor stated, the Shop page is generated by WooCommerce and not the theme.

Thanks, Anita. I checked this thread before starting mine, which then took me to this WordPress.org thread: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/add-text-field-to-shop-page/

I disabled my plugins, as was suggested however it did not help (unfortunately, the user did not state which plugin caused her problems). I hesitate temporarily switching themes because I then must redo my customizations, however if I must, I must.

I'm not sure how you've saved/preserved your customizations. But if you switch themes they should go back the way they were when you switch back to your theme.

I would suggest if you are a new developer that you clone/copy your working environment so you can perform these types of conflict checks. This way it won't interfere with a Live site. But you will need to see which plugin is causing the issue.
