    I am trying to add a full width slider below the menu but above the content and sidebar area. I added the php code provided by Webdorado (the slider developer) to get a full width slider into the header page but then the slider is on all the pages not just the home page. I think I have to add a home page template. I went to this tutorial: https://wisdmlabs.com/blog/create-custom-homepage-genesis/ and created a home page template, but that didn't add the slider to the home page. Do I need to have something elsewhere in the child theme that calls out the home page template?

    I don't know php but can copy and paste it pretty well.

    That tutorial you looked at was very simplistic. You have a very old XHTML theme so a lot of the tutorials for hooks and such won't work since a lot of them are written for the latest versions of Genesis and HTML5. However, your theme does apparently have a front page template. From looking at your source code, it appears that you have a custom front page formatted with a template named page-template-front-page-php. You should be able to modify that file, but be careful, keep a backup copy, and edit through FTP. If you make a mistake with just one character in PHP, you'll bring the site down.

    Truthfully, if you don't know PHP, you may be better off asking a developer for help.

    I was working with a developer but he passed away over the weekend, very sudden, very young, very shocking. So until I get another developer to work with me, I'm trying to muddle thru on my own.

    I created the front-page.php file, added the php code from the slider developer just before calling for Genesis
    '// add your queries or custom structure here
    wd_slider(2);
    }
    genesis(); ?>'

    then used this as the template for my home page but to no avail. Do I need to combine the header.php with the front-page.php to get what I want?

    No, you don't have to combine the header. You have to assign the wd_slide() to an action hook. I might use genesis_before_content_sidebar for an XHTML theme.
