MemberBumping this thread to see if anyone knows of other plugins or code snippets for this!
I use the Metro theme for my site (wittytitlehere.com) and the header just looks awful on mobile. I really wish I could fix this.

MemberThanks for the feedback! I've yet to have problems with the page loading time, but you're not the first person to tell me they have. I'm not a fan of the "more" button, because as a blog reader myself, I know I feel less inclined to read on when I have to click "more," vs. when all the text is right there. I wonder what other ways I could possibly speed this up?
Since my last post, I installed the Genesis Responsive Header plugin, and that fixed the size of the header on my iPhone! I'm seeing a weird space between that and the links below it, though. Will continue to snoop around for clues.

MemberThanks again! Roger, I'm flattered, but you'll be better off using a "real" designer. This was a lot of trial and error and I'm still very much a newbie. If I charge you hourly, it'd cost tens of thousands of dollars. 😉
Also, now that I've lived with this new design for awhile (and have had a chance to recover), can anyone recommend how I might be able to make the customized header responsive? When I minimize the size of my browser, all the blog post content responds properly, but the header begins to disappear and get cut off. Same goes for the mobile version - in fact, you can't see the title of the site at all when viewing on an iPhone.
Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks, guys.

MemberAh, figured it out with the help of support. Easy fix that others likely wouldn't come across unless they'd been messing with the code as I had.

MemberThanks, all, for the feedback! Cath, I haven't had any problem loading the background image on my computer. But maybe it depends on the system. I'll check into whether I can use a smaller file without compromising the image quality. Thanks for the head's up! As for the drop shadow, I guess it's just a matter of personal preference. I might be sick of it in six months, but for now, I'll keep 'em! Thanks!
Something just came to my attention that I'm not super pleased with - I noticed bold styling is not working for me in Firefox (I got confirmation from another user on a different computer getting the same thing). Everything looks as it should in Chrome, but Firefox doesn't seem to want to recognize <strong> or <b> tags in my posts. Anyone know of a fix for this? And why the heck wouldn't that be a standard piece of CSS to go in this theme? Help! Please and thanks.

[Witty Title Here]March 13, 2013 at 9:54 am in reply to: How can I set the background of the Metro theme to be slightly transparent? #25866wittycassiehere
MemberThanks for this tip, guys. Great feature, and I love the way it looks on my own site. I noticed, however, that this makes the widget headers in my sidebar look a little funky. The header text is surrounded in a white box that stands out against the transparent background. Any known way to apply the transparency to these so it blends in nicely? I know if it were an image in my sidebar with a drop shadow, I'd want to save it as a transparent .png. But not sure how to get the same effect with this.
Note: This can't currently be viewed on my site. The theme is not yet activated - I've only implemented and previewed these changes while working in maintenance mode.

MemberThanks so much! I hadn't run into that problem yet, but I know it would've been frustrating at some point.

MemberThanks for your help, dabyrom. That makes sense, but what a bummer! I'll play around with the dimensions, though. If anyone else knows of a way around it (I'm open to white space around the borders of the background image), feel free to chime in!
Thanks again!

MemberThanks for clarifying, Susan. That does make sense it would be overridden since that's what a child theme does. Inconvenient, though, that the new theme will have to go live (and therefore be incomplete design-wise) before I can add those widgets again. I want the final product to go live all together, not piece by piece! Is there a workaround for this I'm not familiar with? Thanks again.

MemberI can't edit my original post, but adding a note to say I can, in fact, change the background image before the theme is made active. But why doesn't the preview of the site show the widgets I currently have installed? Will they disappear if I make Metro active?
