Worked like a charm! Thank you!
SusanModeratorHi, Amy:
I've only upgraded my site once, and I just did it by uploading the latest version of Genesis (available through the download section on mystudiopress). The general recommendation is to backup your site, but I just did it while my site was still running (it's only a test site, so no big deal for me). I had no issues at all.
SusanModeratorI know you asked me to close the thread, but I wanted to offer a suggestion. What version of WP & Genesis are you running?
I created my own site (in my link) with Metro over the weekend, and had no issue with the menu. Then, I was playing with the theme on my test site, and it wasn't working the same as my main site. I couldn't figure out why the difference, and then discovered I was running a previous version of WP and Genesis. I upgraded both, and the issue was resolved.
SusanModeratorYou don't *have* to submit a ticket - you can ask for help on the forum; you just need to be aware that the forum is *staffed* for the most part by volunteers such as myself. We can help you with most questions, but we can't help you in terms of answering why the tutorials aren't as specific as you ink they should be.
I hope that my first response will point you in the right direction π
SusanModeratorThanks, Anita - I just saw that you had redesigned your site using Metro, too! Great minds π
SusanModeratorI like it, Anita! I just went "live" with my design site yesterday, also using the Metro theme! I haven't done anything with my footer area, so no advice for you there!
SusanModeratorYou're welcome π
I'll close this thread as resolved.
SusanModerator@kimber9826 - if you are having trouble setting up your site to look like the demo, you can go ahead and submit a support ticket.
But, in the Β meantime:
Primary Sidebar:
Text widget for the "About me"
For the e-mail sign-up, I recommend the e-News extended plug-in
For recent posts, drag the "Latest posts" widget into the sidebar
Footer: Add the following widgets into the footer areas:
- Recent Comments
- Calendar
- Text
- Text (populated with html linking to your social media)
February 17, 2013 at 10:38 am in reply to: Metro Social Media and Email Newsletter Widgets Missing #20817SusanModeratorThe e-mail sign-up widget is a plugin, which you will need to install: Genesis enews extended
As far as the social media widgets, you will need to add the html to a text widget in your primary sidebar. The instructions for the theme show the html which Brian Gardner used - just copy that, and replace with your information.
SusanModerator@axxa - the theme is created so that if you populate each of the widgeted areas as in the demo, you will have a static page, based on what you decide to put into the widgets. The page won't update with your latest posts, for example.

SusanModeratorCan you provide a link to your site? If you've uploaded the new image and replaced the existing one, I think the only reason you're not seeing the new one is a caching issue.
SusanModeratorYes, the Genesis Responsive Slider is responsive. The other one is not.
I imagine the non-responsive one might have its uses, but I've never used it, so can't comment on the usability or otherwise of that plug-in.
SusanModeratorFor Metro, you would create 2 menus as you would do with any other theme. (Primary and Secondary)
In the demo, the secondary menu appears above the header.
The primary menu is below the header.
The Subnav Left Widget (populated with a text widget) is what displays the content to the left above the header (in the case of the demo, it reads: LIKE THIS THEME? You can buy it on StudioPress.
The demo does not display any menu in header right.
I hope that helps!
SusanModeratorI like it, Charles! I wish I'd seen it a couple of weeks ago - I would have joined your 28 day challenge! π
SusanModeratorI definitely prefer the new one! I feel the site has more space on the new one. I like that it is not cluttered, that you are not trying to put too much on the home page. Good job!
SusanModeratorYour site looks nice! The gray is a nice color, as it doesn't distract from what you should be looking at - the pictures of the food, and the recipes!
SusanModeratorI'm glad you got it working!
I'll close this thread as resolved. Please go ahead and create a new thread if you have another question.
SusanModeratorLook for this in your home.php:
genesis_widget_area( 'call-to-action', array( 'before' => '<div class="call-to-action"><div class="banner-left"></div>', 'after' => '<div class="banner-right"></div></div><!-- end .call-to-action -->' ) );
Hook that where appropriate. (I'm no PHP expert, but this might work...)
'after' => '<div class="slider widget-area"></div></div><!-- end .call-to-action -->'
