1) Can slider NOT be used to set up home page? -
The slider is in a widget area - you can chose whether to add the slider or not.
2) can you specific different # of columns under slider (as shown on home page demo) -
The "columns" are widget areas (Home Middle) - if you are comfortable registering widgets, you could change the number of widgets in this area.
3) are the color blocked headers (home page i.e. ABOUT THE DESIGNER, SERVICES, MY PORTFOLIO) changeable — meaning can you specific which color for which category? I’m assuming those are CATEGORIES? or PAGES -
the Home Middle section is for featured posts or pages (up to you) - the colors are by default (the theme does have additional color schemes available). You could easily change the colors in your stylesheet.
If you need additional assistance, you can contact me directly, or submit a ticket through the Restored 316 support desk.
SusanModeratorAnita - @RainbowSteph is talking about the Restored 316 theme - Inspired
Lauren is the designer behind Restored 316; she has her own help desk, which can be accessed here:http://www.restored316designs.com/support/
If you submit a question to the help desk, I am more than likely going to be the one to respond to your questions, because I help Lauren out over there.
As to the answers to your specific questions, I'll be back shortly with the answers 🙂
SusanModeratorSusanModerator[I wonder if the authors of 3rd party Genesis templates provide support - they might]
Not meaning to hijack the thread, but to answer David's question - yes, the StudioPress Community Theme developers have their own support; it's usually e-mail support. As a general rule, their support is restricted to theme set up or technical issues (just like the official StudioPress support), but some of the developers will provide as much customization support as their time allows - (speaking from personal experience, as I provide support for two of the Community developers) when I'm not here...
SusanModeratorLeon - thanks for the heads up. Since the people who can make those updates rarely have their eyes in this forum, you're more likely to reach the right people by submitting a ticket - I know it's not a "help" issue, but it will be directed to the right people.
SusanModeratorMake sure that you haven't select "Blog" as the template for each new page. There should be a setting for "default".
SusanModeratorYou're welcome. 🙂 I'll close this as "resolved".
SusanModeratorYou're welcome. 🙂
A Starbucks plug-in sounds like a cool idea!
I'll close this thread as "resolved" - go ahead and start another thread if you have any more questions.
SusanModeratorI'm closing this thread, as you started a new thread with the same question:

SusanModeratorOk, you will need to FTP into your hosting site, and then upload a clean copy of your functions.php file to your theme's folder.
Once you have done that, you should be good to go. Let me know if you need additional assistance.
SusanModeratorAnna - you can still use the theme, and it is still supported, so you don't have to switch to another theme - by being retired, it just means that it's not offered for sale anymore.
SusanModeratorWinston aka Cindy - take a look at your site now...
(You may need to add things back into featured areas and your primary sidebar - while troubleshooting, I disabled plugins...)
edited to add - if you don't like the header being so far over to the left, you can play with the CSS a little; as is, it renders nicely on a mobile device in that position.
SusanModeratorAnna:
It has been retired. Yiu can still access the instructions from your downloads > retired page here:
http://my.studiopress.com/downloads/retired/SusanModeratorYou should be able to achieve what you are looking for by changing the template for the page in question to "blog", rather than "default".
SusanModeratorTry the code snippets here: http://my.studiopress.com/snippets/
Or tutorials: http://my.studiopress.com/tutorials/
SusanModeratorThe only thing I’m questioning about StudioPress
As far as I am aware, it's not something that is StudioPress related per se; they haven't disabled that edit option (otherwise, I'm sure there would be more people with questions) - so at this point, it looks like a Synthesis decision.
April 8, 2013 at 3:50 pm in reply to: Do i need a child theme ? and if so which one to do this ? #34127SusanModeratorSorry - I meant "most recent posts" 🙂
Rather than having static category links, you could do a widgetized home page with various categories presented in other ways. For example, the "News" theme...
http://demo.studiopress.com/news/
which has the tabs for the various categories within the content of the home page, and then various sections of the home page dedicated to different stories based on different categories...
April 8, 2013 at 3:12 pm in reply to: Do i need a child theme ? and if so which one to do this ? #34108SusanModeratorAt the top of this screen, there is a "My StudioPress" menu item, with "downloads" below that - you should be able to log into your mystudiopress account, and see the sample theme available for download there.
If you plan on having your most recent posts on your home page, then you wouldn't want a static home page.
SusanModerator@CeeKing - thanks for the clarification that it was Synthesis who turned off the edit link.
