The social buttons are just text in a text box. Here you go... Any link in a box can be made to look like a button with this.

scoeMemberHi Brad,
http://www.hearthandhome.net/decor/news/tax-credit-for-2013/
On second thought. Default image at 1x3 transparent gif does the trick nicely.
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/default-featured-image/screenshots/
All these urls may break when I go live.
Thanks so much, I still wish I could turn that off... but this will be fine.

scoeMemberThanks so much for responding.
Decor's thing is huge featured images:
http://www.hearthandhome.net/decor/gas/
For balance, I like to break up the top-heavy look by leaving off the featured image for some posts:
http://www.hearthandhome.net/decor/contact/
Setting up the dummy "upload" post is my best work around for now because it only automatically attaches un-attached images.
If this is the first time this is a problem for anyone, maybe I am doing something else wrong? This feature is a bug for me.
/** Add post image above post title */
add_action( ‘genesis_before_post_title’, ‘decor_post_image’ );
function decor_post_image() {
if ( is_page() ) return;
if ( $image = genesis_get_image( ‘format=url&size=post-image’ ) ) {
printf( ‘<a href=”%s” rel=”bookmark” class=”post-photo”><span class=”post-date”>%s</span><img src=”%s” alt=”%s” /></a>’, get_permalink(), do_shortcode( ‘<em>[post_date format="j"]</em>[post_date format="F Y"]‘ ), $image, the_title_attribute( ‘echo=0′ ) );
}
}-- SCOE
scoeMemberYes, sure and it works great.
The problem comes when I have a post with no featured image.
If I add an icon to the body of that post, when I save that post, that image will show as the featured image even though no featured image is selected. In fact, the featured image area will be blank. The image will show up only when viewing the post on the site.
I can work around this by making sure that all the images I use are previously attached. So I created a dummy draft post called "image upload" and upload all my icons there. That way, whenever I add an icon, it is already attached to another post. Then the automatic feature does not get triggered. Works for me. Don't want to have to tell clients to do that 🙂
Thanks for the reply and encouraging me to clarify.

So any way... my question is similar... maybe you can help.
I love the featured image but I only want it to show up if I actually go in and select an image as the featured image. Otherwise I want nothing there.
Currently if I am editing a post and I insert an icon from the media library (even one unattached to any post), Decor will automatically use the first image as the Decor image for the hook (genesis_before_post_title). This might be completely inappropriate.
Worse yet, after that you can't get rid of it. You can delete all the images from the post and it will still be there. It's listed as having been "uploaded to" that post in the media library even though you just inserted it. The only thing you can do is permanently delete the image. That means you can't use any small icons in posts unless you want them to be a featured image.
Can you help edit this code so that automatic attachment of an image as "featured image" never happens.
Thanks,
SCOE
This is the only function in the child theme that seems pertinent... but maybe this is a parent-theme function?
/** Add post image above post title */
add_action( 'genesis_before_post_title', 'decor_post_image' );
function decor_post_image() {
if ( is_page() ) return;
if ( $image = genesis_get_image( 'format=url&size=post-image' ) ) {
printf( '<a href="%s" rel="bookmark" class="post-photo"><span class="post-date">%s</span><img src="%s" alt="%s" /></a>', get_permalink(), do_shortcode( '<em>[post_date format="j"]</em>[post_date format="F Y"]' ), $image, the_title_attribute( 'echo=0' ) );
}
}scoeMemberThis reply has been marked as private.scoeMemberHi EightCrazy!
I hope you have not given up on Decor. I am seeking the same solution. I wonder if you have found an answer to your question about the header background disappearing for mobile viewers.
To pin this down here are my notes. If anyone here can help me fix the style sheet (where I think the problem is), I'd appreciate it.
It Only Happens on "Pages" -------
It happens only on "page" pages not "posts." So the link you posted above does not show the problem. But, you can see it in the demo at:
http://demo.studiopress.com/decor/columns/
When you shrink the screen below 800 pixels.
If you see it on your own site's homepage it is because you selected a static page for the homepage. Go with "latest posts" and it will be ok on the homepage. (Methinks, let me know.)
Missing Header Background ONLY On "Pages" when Screen Size <= 800 pixels --------
When you view a page on a smartphone or shrink your screen down past 800 pixels you will see the background on the header disappear. In the cascading style sheet there are adaptions for 800 pixels and 400 pixels screens. The problem starts at the 800 pixel level. (@media only screen and (max-width: 800px)
It does not affect the header menu area.
Missing Footer Background on Pages at Any Size--------
Also on "Pages" the background behind the footer widgets is also missing from the .wrap .widget-area. So the footer widget boxes will have the usual gray background but the box around the boxes will be white. Again this happens only on "Pages" but not "Posts." This happens at all screen sizes.
Correct Background is Replaced in Both Cases (Footer and Header) by Left-Corner-Scroll Graphic in Error --------
The background seems to be replaced by the same graphic that forms the lower corner of posts, the white background with the faint gray scroll in the lower left corner.
So it could be something as simple as a graphic in the wrong place. But I can't remove it from the places where it should not be without removing it from the places where it should be.

Help Us Not Reinvent the Wheel.
If a Decor/CSS Guru is looking at this theme. Please help. These are problems out-of-the-box that any Decor user will have.
I do love this theme. It's not right for my personal site but for home decor client sites looking for a certain dignified look, no other theme comes close.

P.S. Another out-of-the-box problem is this.
Above 800 pixels, the search results will appear in the header.

scoeMemberThanks Susan.
scoeMemberHi Susan,
What a great site! Sweet. Thanks for responding. It's an encouragement.
So when you upgrade your theme? Are there issues?
Thanks,

scoeMemberI have opened a genetic thread on "combining theme functionality"... it would be great if anyone who has done this successfully would share their tips.

February 26, 2013 at 9:24 am in reply to: Decor Child Theme – Content "Frame" Doesn't Overlap Header Like It Should #22910scoeMemberThe plugin problem is replaced by using the Genesis eNews Extended plugin.
The header problem I had was caused by the fact that the name of my company was longer than 10 letters.That wrapped the company name. So it pushes the menus to the right down and messes up the overlay of the top of the white body frame onto the black ground. It pushes it down so that there is not such a nice design overlay, is that what you experienced.
My solution was go to into the CSS files and edit the font size of title from 68 to 40 and adding padding 10px to description. If this sounds hard it is not, just post and I'll reply. Works fine now. At least this part of it.
scoeMemberUse the Genesis eNews Extended plugin. Has the same formatting as the one in the demo. Importing the demo content won't help.
I believe because of changes in Feedburner, the old plugin does not work.
scoeMemberA Plugin sounds easy, thanks Navitas...
scoeMemberHello Stacey,
Alternative 1: Set up a password protection with htaccess. If you can edit your htaccess file to require a certain user's username and password that's best. If you can't do that or your host won't let you (websynthesis for security reasons), then consider accessing your site by it's IP address. I used that method until this week.
http://www.colostate.edu/~ric/htpass.html
Alternative 2: IP address access. If you have not yet pointed your domain name there via DNS, because it is live elsewhere maybe, but you can reach your new host by IP address, then you can access it up that way and although <em>it can still be accessed by others who know the ip address</em> it is not going to be indexed in search engines that way.
To work on your site, you'll need to trick your own computer into thinking that the domain name is pointed that that IP address. You can do this by editing your hosts file or setting up a proxy server. I recommend using the hosts file on your computer. These links courtesy of D. at copyblogger support...

http://decoding.wordpress.com/2009/04/06/how-to-edit-the-hosts-file-in-mac-os-x-leopard/Honestly I just learned how to edit my hosts file last week. It works like a charm for me but full disclosure, it was new to me. So nice now to work on a site that's not live!!
Alternative 3: Install a local edition of wordpress at bitnami.org. There is a tutorial on this at Lynda.com. I did not need it, it worked just like any other windows install.
http://www.lynda.com/WordPress-tutorials/Installing-Running-WordPress-BitNami/114908-2.html
http://bitnami.org/A local bitnami wordpress installation is great for learning but if you are expecting to upload it and have your design work instantly, there be dragons here. The server will probably be different on your host. You'll have to back up your content and settings from your computer and upload them to a different server when you go live. It should be OK, but servers can have different versions of php and graphics packages. There is a genesis settings transporter plugin that might help here. (I have not used it.) This is a good bet if you also use a bitnami wordpress server on the live web. See Bitnami Cloud Hosting.
Hope this helps. I wrestled with this last week so if you come across another solution please post about it so I can learn more on this.
