    Hi Westerdaled,

The slug under the title will become the URL. So on the page you are linking to, make sure that slug under the post title has important keywords and is not too long. After editing the slug, be sure to click OK AND then click update on the page as well.

If you are developing on a live site, you have to use preview urls. If you are interested in working on a private staging site in WordPress, you can publish all the links and it makes life easier. You can use https://serverpress.com/ or other similiar ways of having wordpress on your desktop. If you are working closely with others you'll want a staging site online. Who is your current host?

Also, if you generate a sitemap for your site, you can check that all your urls are SEO friendly. To create a sitemap you can read, you can create a page and assign it the archive template. Alternatively, you use: http://www.web-site-map.com/ [I have no relation to this site.]

    Hope this helps,

    Hi Reginald,

If you find editing the functions file a bit daunting, you can also use the Genesis Simple Edits plugin:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/genesis-simple-edits/

This plugin is recommended by StudioPress as an alternative on this page:
    http://my.studiopress.com/setup/cafe-pro-theme/extras/how-do-i-change/

    Two Tips:

First, here is StudioPress' example html you can enter into the field for the footer credit text.

    <p>&copy; Copyright 2012 <a href="http://mydomain.com/">My Domain</a> &middot; All Rights Reserved &middot; Powered by <a href="http://wordpress.org/">WordPress</a> &middot; <a href="http://mydomain.com/wp-admin">Admin</a></p>

Second, you might want to leave the love! (aka dashicons-heart) You can use any of the dashicons in in the footer. More on dashicons here:
    http://my.studiopress.com/setup/cafe-pro-theme/home-page-setup/front-page-3-widget-area/

    Happy Holidays...

    Hi myersbr2,

Oh I am the same. I went to all the trouble to do exactly that, change the code, and then I did not like the look. 🙂

    Hi myersbr2,

If you have no featured image, long title content pushes up into the "framed corners" at the top and looks ugly. Try using the image above as a default featured image and don't fret.

Thanks Brad for the advice. Still working after all these years.

Also, just a decor-related tip. Since they are not planing a decor pro, we are going to move to the Jessica theme.

You might like the similar image container sizes.

If it helps, here's what I say. You are welcome to use that theme, just not with me.

Suggest they ask the other theme designer to recommend someone.

http://www.carriedils.com/podcast/cliff-seal-26/ is an interesting edition of carriedils.com podcast where the guest discusses his limited offerings.

Seems like the way to go.

    Hi wp_guy,

I agree. I don't update client sites right away unless there is a security issue. But I feel like I have to take the plunge myself so I can test the waters. No problems.

I don't offer non-genesis themes to clients any more. Too many headaches.

My media galleries are fine. But I have also seen reports of that. Make sense to check them.

I don't know if it is redundant to say this, but before any upgrade it's important to back up the site, database and everything. I only say this because there are new people here: a backup is useless if you are not sure how to restore your site from that backup. Practicing that is like having fire-drills, a pain but a great idea. My apologies if this is too basic.

    Hi Marcy,

To show posts on your home page in the Freelance theme, drop a Featured Posts widget into your "Home Top" widget section. Choose these options: posts, all categories, order by date, descending. Set the rest of the options to your liking. The standard Featured Posts widget provided by Genesis will be perfectly fine.

Here's a Featured Posts widget with a few extras:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/genesis-featured-content-widget/

(In the newer StudioPress themes posts are shown on the homepage by default if there are no widgets there, but Freelance does not do that.)

    Category Images --

How are you showing the list of images linking to categories now? If it is in a widget, can you move that to the "Primary Sidebar" widget area?

I've never had an upgrade problem with StudioPress themes. I only test Pro themes. Tests are going well for me in 4.0. Did you have a specific theme you would like tested?

    Hi Jacqueline,

Here is a page about linking your website to your Google Plus account:
    https://support.google.com/business/answer/4569085?hl=en&rd=1

Just remember that being listed in Google is governed by Google itself, but the Google Author listing next to your website articles is a feature of Google Plus. There are settings there to consider.

    Hi Jacqueline,

Have you linked to your google plus page from your blog? Your Simple Social Icons link to twitter, facebook and linked-in.

Google Plus likes to see mutual links.

Your site is being indexed by Google. Are you looking for the author image next to your listings?

    Hi Music Lover,

You don't have to ever "select" or activate the genesis framework. Just as long as you upload it, that's fine. Every time you upload a theme based on the genesis framework, it checks for the presence of the framework, just as any child theme will check for the status of a parent.

Your general settings can stay the same. Feel free to post any questions here and one of us will help. This is a volunteer forum and regular support is also available by submitting a support ticket. I rec'd help from people here when I was new to Genesis.

Do you want to post your plugins list here, and I'll let you know if I can see any potential problems off the bat. There should not be.

The detailed instructions are for people who are using that generic "Genesis Sample" theme as their child theme. They have to install the framework first too.

    Hello Music Lover.

Just make sure you have the genesis framework installed. Then install your "child theme" and then follow the instructions for setting up that theme.

i am a little concerned about your site being down while you are working on this. Have you set up a WordPress site before. Do you know about General Settings, such as permalinks? Tell me what's up and I'll see if I can help some more.

Do you mean that you have the "Genesis Sample" theme installed? I don't know that installing the framework without a child theme is quite right. Forgive me if I am missing something... -- Sheryl

    Hi Andrea,

Sorry mistake! I wanted Susan to direct message me about a theme for therapists. I thought I saw it in her showcase, but I can't find it now.

Really the GPL thing is just fyi. I know it's GPL. I don't need a thing. But someone new to your site might not and the links about it are 404. I don't need ANYTHING. I'm fine (really).

Sorry to have take so much of your time on this silly thread. Someone should delete it.

I agree. I just don't care enough to post a ticket about it. So this was fine. Please direct message me.
