RobinMemberIt sounds to me that perhaps your custom menu widget may have fallen from the Header Right section and into the Primary Sidebar section
I would remove everything from those widget areas and clear the cache if you're running one.
Follow the steps as laid out in the instructions again

RobinMemberSometimes it's the simplest things that slow us down. Ugh....
You don't need a custom sidebar. The left side of sixteen nine is a just a menu created and titled whatever you wish to call it in the Appearance > Menus section of your dashboard.
Once that menu is created, drag the Custom Menu widget into Header Right and be sure to select the menu that you created in the select menu dropdown. Save
Hope this helps a bit.

RobinMemberSince your homepage is a static page, you could also use a responsive slider plugin like soliloquy lite or the easing slider.

RobinMemberIf you use firebug and hover over the elements, the sizes of those areas are indicated.
To remove the responsive aspect of the theme, locate the section in your style css titled:
/*
Media Queriesand remove the entire section. Your theme will no longer be responsive.
These two posts will give you a good starting point for responsive design. Each has additional resources at the end of the post.

RobinMemberDon't know which theme you're using, but many SP themes have a Landing page template included in the theme.
Copyblogger also has Premise for creating landing pages http://getpremise.com/

September 28, 2013 at 10:02 am in reply to: Updating theme and losing all custom setting questions #64576RobinMemberJenny, sorry that info was not as helpful to you as you would like. Unfortunately, the process of customizing your theme does start with using the Firebug tool and placing custom css edits in one of those methods if you choose not to edit the original theme as someone did to your theme.
If you are unable or do not wish to contact the person who customized your theme, perhaps you should hire a developer to do the process for your 4 sites since your skills are limited.
Most, but not all, changes to the functions.php are done at the bottom.
Without seeing your site and knowing specifically what you are changing, I have no other suggestions to offer to you.
Best Regards.

This post by Chris Cree and discussion on G+ should point you in a direction as to how to handle custom css edits in the future:
https://plus.google.com/+ChrisCree/posts/TcS6LZMWPTU
As mentioned in the thread, installing the Jetpack plugin and using the custom css edit module is another option for
keeping your edits out of the original child theme.

RobinMemberYou will need to register 2 new widgets in your functions.php and then place new widgets areas in your front-page.php
BEFORE you do anything, be sure to have a backup of both the functions.php and front-page.php in case something goes wrong.

September 25, 2013 at 9:22 pm in reply to: looking for responsive theme with menus that change significantly #64237RobinMemberThe 3 themes I can think of right now that already have the 'hamburger icon' when the website is viewed on smaller devices are:
Minimum Pro
Expose
Sixteen NineIf you are interested in a different theme, you can either use the Genesis Club lite plugin to create the hamburger icon for you or code a mobile navigation using tutorials.
I found Brad Potter's tutorials to be very helpful in creating mobile navigational menus. http://bradpotter.com/responsive-mobile-navigation-menu-for-the-genesis-theme-framework/
Hope that helps a bit.

RobinMemberHey Josh,
Here are two options to consider:
1- install Jetpack and activate the custom css module to place your custom css changes2- follow what Chris Cree advises here https://plus.google.com/+ChrisCree/posts/TcS6LZMWPTU
I use the jetpack module in many cases and it works out for me.
