Yes.
The iphone code from CSS tricks works for me.
Link: Media Queries for Standard DevicesThere is a lot to mobile responsive design!
RichardPDMemberHi Ginger
That is getting much better now! Thanks.
My only issue is how the title does not display full width with the phone in landscape orientation.In landscape I have the title as:
CHESS RATING
RISE (CRR)(should be on one line to the phone max width size).
Is there a fix for that please? So, nearly there and sorted. I hope you can help solve this finally.
Thanks and best wishesRichardPDMemberHi Ginger,
Thank you so much for your help and support.If I remove this css, then I get the title not displaying inline in desktop view nicely.
Eg instead of: CHESS RATING RISE CRR
it shows as: CHESSRATING RISE
(CRR)
This breaks onto 2 lines and I do not want that.If I leave it in, the title is not displaying nicely in mobile portrait or landscape responsive view!
Grateful for help to fix this pesky responsive title! Many thanks 🙂
RichardPDMemberHi Ginger
Thank you so very much for your help.. I have found where that CSS rule came from, although I do not know how it works!So in the WP Dashboard >Appearances>Edit CSS
I had added this:
/* Welcome to Custom CSS! To learn how this works, see http://wp.me/PEmnE-Bt */ .title-area { float: left; width: 420px; }
I edit this to width: 50%; and this displays better in mobile responsive iphone view..
I have no idea where I got the idea to add this CSS and I have no idea how the HTML is added?!
The odd thing is I did this but have forgotten how I did it!
The theme I call Standard_Gen_theme and my code is a mess!
Copied from WP Editor...

How did I add that inline style in the head with that css rule & where did I add it ? I can't remember!!! AAAAARGH...
(was it in theme functions or one of the custom landing or salespage templates? I do not know as I cannot see it included anywhere in any of those?!).
I would really love to get this site sorted so it looks good on all devices!
I may just have to accept this as it is an improvement but it still seems ugly to me especially as it is my coding!
I haven't got enough Genesis and mobile responsive coding experience to cope with this.
Any feedback gratefully received. Again many thanks 🙂RichardPDMemberThanks Ginger Coolidge for your very helpful reply.
I have edited the style code as you indicated but I cannot edit the inline html code!
I can see this code in Firebug and Inspectore WebDevTools and edit it there but those changes are
only temporary.
I cannot find this code anywhere in my theme .php pages?!
Very baffling..is there a way to make permanent edits on the fly in the browser?
I am bamboozled and would greatly appreciate a little more help please!
Many thanks 🙂August 13, 2015 at 2:59 pm in reply to: New Backcountry site theme "leave comment" box after post & other issue #162301RichardPDMemberOK..
I posted on SimpleSocialIcons plugin homepage and had a helpful reply from Nick Cernis that sorted box the icon & comment box issue.I knew from here that I needed to alter the css stylesheet to fix the icon issue but I didn't know what Nick told me that the comment form/box does not work on a homepage or category pages. It does work on the site on the posts page.
I may change the front page to a custom template to display thge comment box or just use the Backcountry default homepage with image slider & featured posts exerpts etc.
See:
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/icon-not-displaying-properly-on-genesis-backcountry-child-theme?replies=5#post-7297325Anyway hopefully I know the reason for all the issues I've had with the Backcontry Genesis child theme. I hope these posts may help anyone else who might get issues with this theme and thanks to everyone for their fine help here.
Best wishesRichardPDMemberVictor
Thanks..that explains that issue.I am still struggling to get the "Leave comment" form to display at the end of the post on my AccidentalDiscovery site though.

August 12, 2015 at 9:06 am in reply to: New Backcountry site theme "leave comment" box after post & other issue #162156RichardPDMemberHi Victor
I have comments switched on.
I have x6 plugins..Akismet/HostgatorWalk/JetPack/MOJO/SimpleSocialIcons/WPSuperCache...any of these a problem?
I suppose I can turn them off one by one and test...
Thanks againAugust 12, 2015 at 8:39 am in reply to: New Backcountry site theme "leave comment" box after post & other issue #162146RichardPDMemberHi Victor
Thanks for your very helpful reply.In regard to Leave a comment box, it is NOT displaying the comment box after the post as I want it.
To show what I mean here see a post on my other Backcontry theme where the leave a comment box is present below the post by default (without the need to click the leave comment link):http://1000mileswithfriends.com/2015/02/19/walking-with-friends/
Why can this work with this theme one one site but not the other?
Thanks for your help with the issue with the SimpleSocialIcons and Backcountry theme. I will try & fix this with a CSS edit.
RichardPDMemberHi Victor
Thanks for your very helpful reply.
However after seeing your post reply here, I visited the site and lo and behold there was an update notification present!
EG: Genesis 2.1.3 is available. Check out what's new or update now.I used this link to upgrade and all is good now!
I haven't a clue why it took so long to get this notification while my other 2 sites had it so many hours earlier?
Just one of those things...BTW thanks for your reply to my other post about Backcountry theme & SimpleSocialIcon issue.
Best wishes 🙂RichardPDMemberHi Brad
Thanks again for your helpful reply. I cannot also believe that Backcountry Genesis Child Theme is NOT HTML5!
I am a firm HTML5 supporter and am disappointed to see it not used in this child theme. How did I miss that when I bought the theme? I will need to check more carefully in future....HTML5 shouldn't be for PRO Genesis versions alone, it should be a standard feature, imho!
I guess I could edit it myself and update it to HTML5 before a PRO version release.It is interesting and helpful though, to know that you feel sure this child theme won't be updated, so my customisations should remain and work.
As an aside, at the moment the http://www.accidentaldiscovery.co.uk site is somehow being difficult as the post there (multi threaded) should show a comment box below, but it doesn't. Very strange, as when I published the post, the leave a comment box was there but it has now disappeared, despite me clearing my cache/history and page refreshing? Odd.
Again, best wishes
RichardPDMemberHi Brad
Thanks for your reply.I am surprised at your comment that child themes aren't updated!?
Can you just confirm this and explain it some more?
Does this mean that Backcountry theme will not be updated by StudioPress?I also remembered I started my own Genesis site last November(2014) which I only infrequently visit and update. This uses a custom Genesis child theme I made myself (but I did it so long ago I have forgotten how I did it!).
So, I actually run x3 Genesis sites now!Thanks for your useful resources links, best wishes
RichardPDMemberWell, further to my first post, I have my first featured image on the slider on the homepage. I now need to create more pages with more featured images to make it into a proper slider.
As an aside I also imported the backcountry demo site XML to act as a guide. Anyway I am making progress setting up this Genesis theme even if it is taking longer than anticipated and been trickier than anticipated. Best wishes
November 2, 2014 at 4:54 am in reply to: Add widget to div within page content on Genesis landing page template #130161RichardPDMemberIn brief I have given up trying to do this for the moment.
I have spent ages trying to get a widgetised area in the content on my landing page and while I'm sure I could eventually succeed with this I've spent too long trying (at least I know some ways that do not work!..all experience!).
As I've said most information on site posts show how to register and activate a widget area in specific parts of a Genesis/Genesis Child theme using hooks (in the footer, above the header,after the header, before and after post content).
Of the many posts explaining this I think I've only seen one post trying to add a widget to a custom template and that didn't work for me.Instead I have done an alternative which is directly use HTML form code within my page content at the place I want to put it.
The form style code isn't elegant as it is borrowed from elsewhere, again as I did not have my own form code premade. I have integrated it with my Aweber code and it is satisfactory for the moment (I'll probably find it doesn't work as a responsive form sometime soon!).Anyway I have learnt a little more about Genesis (as this is my first ever Genesis/Genesis child theme and site).
However I now need to spend time working on my site products and posts and not be spending time coding the theme!
Possibly, when I have set the site up fully I will revisit all this and try it again but for now I must press on with the rest of the site and other issues.This post has been sinking fast down the page list in this forum over the last 2 days and soon will be buried deep in the bowels of historic pages.
Bye and goodluck to all using widgetised areas in landing pages and to all Genesis users and developers! 🙂October 31, 2014 at 7:07 am in reply to: Add widget to div within page content on Genesis landing page template #129998RichardPDMemberHi
Thanks for your further help. I'm sure this is very simple for you but I have spent hours now trying to fix it.
Using your example landing page code I get this error:
A white browser screen with the php error message:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '<' in /home4/hilaryd/public_html/chessratingrise.co.uk/wp-content/themes/Standard_Gen/page_landing.php on line 71This was the code that I used
'<div class="MyPageWidget">
<?php genesis_widget_area( pagewidget', array( 'before' => '<div class="pagewidget widget-area">', 'after' => '</div>')); ?>
</div>`
I have just removed this and I will keep trying to figure this out and get it to work but I would still really like your help if possible.
Many thanks for helping me so far with this, best wishes 🙂October 31, 2014 at 6:09 am in reply to: Add widget to div within page content on Genesis landing page template #129989RichardPDMemberHi
Thanks for your further help.
This code has put the #pagewidget at the top of the landing page and that is where the eNews plugin is placed.
I put #pagewidget div into the middle of the page content where I want the widget area to be!This is the code I have in my landing page template
genesis_widget_area( 'pagewidget', array( 'before' => '<div id="pagewidget">', 'after' => '</div>'));
This is the code I have in my theme functions
//*RPD register landingpage widget in pagewidget div area genesis_register_sidebar(array( 'name'=>'LandingPageWidget ', 'id' => 'pagewidget', 'description' => 'This is the widget area of the landingpage pagewidget div area.', )); //* Add widget area in landing page content in pagewidget div function add_LandingPageWidget() { LandingPageWidget( 'pagewidget', array( 'before' => '<div id="pagewidget">', 'after' => '</div>', ) ); }
See this on siteChess Rating Rise
HELP!
I've been following several tutorials to try and understand this myself but I have not seen one tutorial creating a new widget area in a page (most are for posts) and most are using hooks that place the widget in places I don't want it!
I'm grateful for more help and advice to fix this, many thanks

October 30, 2014 at 9:49 am in reply to: Social Media Widget Plugin Headr issue on custom landing page help #129891RichardPDMemberJames
Thanks for your explanation. As far as I can tell the Standard_Gen-landing.wrap was 800px; wide and the widget area 800px; wide and so the 2 together making 1600px wide being too large for the width of the theme (1140px I think) so that the header was forced down and so was made wider?
Does that make sense? Is that the correct explanation? I think so.....
However, now I have the Standard_Gen-landing.wrap at 1000px; wide and .widget area 500px so that totals 1500px wide and yet this displays the header properly. Is the issue the width of the theme or the width of the screen it is viewed on or both?!That brings me on to my next question:- Why didn't I get this issue on the blog page? Presumably because the blog page wrap is different size? I do not know as I haven't studied the code yet!
Again, many thanks for your great help James with helping me fix this...nice to meet you and have a great day! 🙂
October 30, 2014 at 9:21 am in reply to: Social Media Widget Plugin Headr issue on custom landing page help #129884RichardPDMemberHi James
You are a star...many thanks for your help.
As you advised, I changed the width of Standard Gen Landing wrap to 1000px (a better width I felt to display my page content) and .site-header .widget-area to 50% (ie 500px) and this all displays fine!
I have spent a couple of hours messing around with custom header coding and other coding to fix this but all was unsuccessful until I tried your advice. As I said earlier I do not understand why changing the wrap WIDTH has affected the header HEIGHT and I would not have dreamt of reducing .site-header .widget-area to 50% to get the header to the right size! I would really appreciate it if you could try and explain what has happened here so I can get more understanding of this Genesis code. I am just starting with Genesis and have learnt a little so far and the more I can learn and understand it the better it is for me running a Genesis themed site!
Meanwhile I really appreciate your great help..thanks very much again!
October 30, 2014 at 6:28 am in reply to: Social Media Widget Plugin Headr issue on custom landing page help #129865RichardPDMemberWhy can't I edit my post?
I added one edit and now I now longer have an edit function available so I cannot make any more editsto this!This post is just to say fixing the nav menu bar height was simple..I just changed margin-bottom:40px; to
.Standard_Gen-landing ul li {
background: url('images/1.png') no-repeat;
margin-bottom: 4px;
padding-left: 44px;
}I add remove sidebar php code to both home.php and landing-page.php.
I still need to adjust the content width.....
