Ahh. I was assuming you were dealing with a fresh install of WP+Gen+Sample...
- By 'manually populating' the text widgets, I mean to say that you'll have to type or copy/paste in some information for the widget to show up in the sidebar. For the Social Share Icons you'll have to enter in a facebook url for the icon to show up, etc.
- An example of something that would've been imported with the demo content is the post on the front page called "Sample Post With Threaded Comments". In 'All Posts' look for a post with that title. Same with Categories, you should see 'Category #1' etc. This will give you an idea if the content was imported correctly.
- The rows of themes you see in Appearance>>Themes are images generated by the 'screenshot.png' file in the child theme folder. The Sample theme's image size should be 880x660
If you haven't already, try disabling all the plugins then reactivating them one at a time to see if there's a conflict causing issues. Otherwise, if it were me at this point, I would most likely set up a new database/WP install on my computer (local dev site using XAMPP, WAMP or MAMP) or subdomain and start fresh to make sure I'm doing it right. That process will oftentimes reveal where things went wrong.
If you haven't already, go ahead and install a developer tool, like Firebug, for your browser to help you pinpoint what's going on. Let me know what happens.
LeifParticipantThanks for mentioning Jetpack, Genwrock. Yes, you would need to install Jetpack and activate the Widget Visibility module.

Yes Anna, I have relatives in Sweden ...hej då!LeifParticipantAnna... The easiest way would be to create your menu, then drop a 'Custom Menu' widget in the sidebar of the pages you want it to show up on. Use the 'Visibility' feature of the Custom Menu widget.
LeifParticipantYes. For the most part your sample theme should match the demo. Any text widgets will have to be manually populated along with the eNews and Social Icons widgets. You may also have to use you own pic for the first post.
Did you use the WordPress Importer plugin to import the xml? The xml file contains the posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags from the demo. If the imported xml file can be uninstalled, I wouldn't know how to do it. You have to go to each of those sections in WordPress and bulk delete them. Or create a new database and install WP + Gen all over again.
Once the xml file is imported, check your posts, categories, tags, and pages to see if everything is there. Then make sure the plugins used in the sample theme are installed and activated. From there, it's just a matter of going down the tutorial and completing the steps.
Not sure what you mean about whitespace on the demo page. The sample theme, under 'Reading Settings' or 'Static Front Page' in the theme Customizer, is set to 'Front Page displays: Latest Posts'. So if you are trying to edit the Page named 'Home' you won't see anything (unless you've put something there). Maybe that's what you are seeing? There's more about this in the Codex http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page

Remember that some widgets like 'Featured Posts' need to have content - or posts, in this case - created and available to populate the widget. That's where the demo content comes in handy. Keep at it, I'm sure you'll figure it out.

There's a step by step tutorial in your dashboard on how to set it up http://my.studiopress.com/setup/agentpress-pro-theme/
For the homepage, a detailed explanation is provided about the layout and widgets used for the demo http://my.studiopress.com/setup/agentpress-pro-theme/home-page-setup/home-page-layout/ with a blue button at the bottom left of the page linking to where the demo content can be downloaded.
Do you use Firebug or Google developer tools by any chance? That would otherwise help you through the process you described you were using.
LeifParticipantI know it was a couple of weeks for me before I realized I could scroll down the http://my.studiopress.com/ page where I found a whole section of resources. Call it below the fold. So I'm really not being condescending when I ask if you've already logged into your StudioPress account and checked out the tutorial http://my.studiopress.com/tutorials/import-demo-content/.
If so, is there something specific that's not happening the way you want it to go? At what point during the import do things go awry for you?
LeifParticipantI would say to focus on making sure your homepage loads up as fast as it can , especially on mobile devices. That might help you determine how many and what type of widgets you'll use.
I also ran your url through woorank.com so you can get a pretty good overview of where your SEO efforts are working and where there's room for improvement. Not sure how long they keep the results.

Otherwise, there's a plugin for that https://wordpress.org/plugins/genesis-simple-edits/
February 17, 2015 at 2:22 am in reply to: Navigation on Header right widget area not responsive #141080LeifParticipantI took a peek at the style.css on the demo site and around line 1143 after Secondary Navigation there should be a whole section that looks like:
/* Responsive Menu --------------------------------------------- */ .responsive-menu-icon { cursor: pointer; display: none; text-align: center; } .responsive-menu-icon::before { content: "\f333"; display: inline-block; font: normal 20px/1 'dashicons'; margin: 0 auto; padding: 10px; } .site-header .responsive-menu-icon::before { padding: 0; }
I noticed that is missing on your stylesheet, so unless you moved that code elswehere, it may have been accidentally deleted while making edits. Hopefully it's a start.
February 17, 2015 at 1:45 am in reply to: Default meta description to home description if emtpy #141078LeifParticipantI use Yoast's plugin.
https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo/#title-descriptionWordPress SEO let’s you set templates for titles and meta descriptions for all types of pages, so you could come up with a template and not have to think about it, or you could use the WordPress SEO meta box to completely optimize your post title and meta description, using the snippet preview functionality to see what it would look like in Google
