Many thanks for this, I´ll try it out.
Really appreciate your help.
And really, your site looks amazing!
You are right about mobile version, but I guess in your niche, people use desktop more.PavleMemberHah, I got it.
http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page
So instead of home.php I called my folder front-page.php and now I see widgets on my home page.
CSS time.
PavleMemberOkay,
So these codes obviously work.
The only problem now is how to define widgets to appear on my Home instead of my Post page.
I used <?php genesis_home(); ?>
But widgets still appear under my Blog Page (Post page)
Anyone?PavleMemberOkay, so I created a folder home.php and uploaded a code
Then in my function.php I pasted this
And then I pasted the CSS code from above. The only issue now is that these widgets do not actually appear on my front page.
Widgets appeared on my post page (Blog page). My settings in WordPress Reading are :
I assume problem is in defining my Front/Home or Post page.
Code for Home folder in which I uploaded code starts like this <?php get_header(); ?>
<?php genesis_home(); ?>
Any ideas?PavleMemberOkay Brad, thanks.
I will try to find out something more and post here if I find a solution.PavleMemberHi Brad,
Thanks for the reply.
Well CSS is where I am stuck currently.
Thanks to your great site I created widgets. I added this plugin http://genesisthemes.de/en/wp-plugins/genesis-featured-page-extras/
I called each post category to appear in particular widget. But it looks a bit messed up now.
Really hoping to make it responsive after I am done with the CSS.
By the way is there any tutorial on your site for responsive widgets adding?
Edit :
I am using Genesis Sample theme Brad.
PavleMemberHi Summer,
I like what Jetpack does with comments, allows users to login via social networks. Any idea?
As for social sharing, I am looking for a plugin that can load very fast, this seams like a good solution, how it works for you?
I am on shared hosting (HostGator) so I am trying to decrease loading as much as I can. Jetpack disabled made website load much much faster.
Many thanks for the tips, your site looks very neat! Congratulations. 😉
PavleMemberThanks Brad, I will do that you are right.
I am now posting solutions that I found (you would be amazed how much you need to google for a few lines of simple code sometimes).
1) Removing dashboard for logged in users (except for admin) (add it in functions.php child theme, works for all themes!)
2) Blocking spammers when trying to register, - Install this plugin http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-recaptcha/
Great plugin, so far I haven´t had a single fake, bot registration.
However it is a bit annoying for the users. Does anyone know a better way?3) I still have problem with text fields. Can anyone help me out on this one. Here is the thing. When you try to enter anything either in search sidebar field or registration field for example, letters get stuck. I have no idea why. Any thoughts? You can see what I am talking about by simply trying to enter anything in email or name field in my http://www.cardzreview.com/forums upper log in widget.
PavleMemberSometimes I just LOVE to make things complicated.
Thanks a million to both Lauren and Brad, you guys are amazing!
It worked with ttThanks once again! Now I can move on to improving my site 🙂
PavleMemberHi Lauren,
Thanks so much for the reply.
I Tried it but it did not change the font. Here is what else I tried, but nothing gave results.
Not really sure what I am doing wrong, or perhaps something else has to be targeted.
PavleMemberHey Lauren,
Yes, but its okay.
So where do I need to insert the "tt" thing? (sorry for the question)
Thanks a lot!
PavleMemberI tried something like this
But it did not work 🙁
PavleMemberHey Lauren,
Thank you for the reply.
However this changes font on my forum page.
And I want to change font on this page http://www.cardzreview.com/active/
to look like the font I have on my forum http://www.cardzreview.com/forums/Any idea?
You are right, this current font is terrible.
Thanks.PS Is there any particular font you would recommend for a site in general?
PavleMemberFinally I made this work, I just aligned two widgets to the right and one to the left and it worked, sort of.
If anyone needs the code here it is
Next : I will try to make those widgets responsive and come one on top of another.
I already saw a tutorial for that on Brad´s site http://wpsites.net/web-design/add-2-responsive-widgets-side-by-side-in-genesis-2/
and will post a code when I am done.
PavleMemberSorry forgot to attach the code
I followed your tutorial on WP-Sites Actually Brad 🙂 Thats how I learned to call a widgets.
So I called a widget in my content
After that in appearance>widgets I added 3 text widgets in which I pasted html code
Ahh I know I am close to what I want, I just do not know how to make them inline, or centered or whatever it takes too look better than this 🙂
PavleMemberBrad thank you.
So I have 3 widgets, here is what I ended up with.
I tried everything I was able to google (at list that´s what I think).
I hope someone will know to help me out on this one.
PavleMemberHey Brad,
Thanks so much, as always your tips are incredibly valuable.
So there is no way to just inline these 3 widgets with CSS?I do have an Executive pro, but where exactly do I need to look?
To be honest, I thought this is just a simple CSS arranging.
Here is how my widget area looks nowI tried with "align text" and those other stuff, but it won´t work.
My homepage is here http;//www.cardzreview.com
I saw this type of homepage from one of the members on this forum in a topic.
The site is http://elitegamingcomputers.com/ It seams its on Sample Theme.
PavleMemberBloody hell, I finally found a solution for this.
If anyone ever encounters the same problem, here is what I did.I added one widget into genesis_before_content_sidebar_wrap and the other one genesis_entry_header by using Brad´s tutorial http://wpsites.net/web-design/add-widget-in-bbpress/
NOTE : You have to change the code according to your needs. This is just to give you the idea.
Then I did a bit CSS (I am beginner so it probably is not perfect styling)
PavleMemberJust a note if everyone has similar question.
Here is a list of all conditional tags in bbpress
http://codex.bbpress.org/bbpress-conditional-tags/You can just replace is_bbpress with any tag you want.
To display it on my forum index page I used bbp_is_forum_archive()
Good luck everyone, my day started very well thanks to Brad 🙂
PavleMemberBrad, you are genius!
I swear I´ve been trying this for hours and hours.Your site has been my #1 source of information , I have no idea how I missed this post.
It works perfectly now.
Keep up the great work with your site by the way, I feel like that almost each tutorial I see there is exactly what I need 🙂
