MemberI guess I need to find the class and/or id of the element that I want to customize inside the widget. For example, the two elements that I need to customize are the entry-title and the entry-content.
Would my css code need to look like the following:
.widget #featured-post-3 #entry-title { font-size: 24p; text-align: left; }
Would that change the title area? I've tried it and it doesn't seem to do anything, but maybe I'm not putting this code in the right place in the stylesheet.
Where does this code need to go?
Thanks,

MemberOK. So if I got this right, what I need to do is find the ID and class of the widget I want to add the custom css to.
Am I correct in assuming that the ID is the following:
featured-post-3
And the class is the following:
widget
Thanks for the help?

MemberOops. Now I ended up making changes to the whole site. So I guess I have to figure out how to make these changes just to the frontpage. Do you know if there is a way to add css just to the FrontPage?

Thank you once again.

MemberHey there, Thanks for the input.
I tried what to do what you did, and I think I have a problem with it because I have disabled the post title using a hook, I think it was. Someone helped guide me to add a snippit of code to my php file and I think that removed the post titles so I can use my visual editor, Thrive Content Builder, to build the posts. It's very easy and gives me a lot of flexibility.
So, after going crazy for a few hours and trying every imaginable combination of option settings, this is the best I can do, for now.
As you can see, I finally have the correct order that I wanted, Image, then Title, then the text. The only thing I don't have is the Continue Reading link, but I can live with that. I'm sure there's some way to stick that in, but it's not my priority right now.
What I do need to discover is how to adjust the css so I can adjust the alignment of the text, the size of the title and text, as well as the padding and margins.
Do you know where I would add this css?
Thank you so very much for the help. I deeply appreciate it. Even though you didn't give the exact answer, you input lead me to the answer, so thank you very much. I owe you one.
Next time you are in Rio, I'll get you a coconut water at our beach! 🙂
All the very best, my friend.

MemberHi Badly, (I hope it's OK to call you that. 🙂 )
What you did is very nice. I like that. I'm not sure it's what I need, but it could be depending.
I've written another topic explaining what I'm trying to do, but since I don't fully understand the options yet, I may be barking up the wrong tree. But if you get a change to look here:

And I don't want to abuse of your good will or time, my friend. But I sincerely appreciate the help.

MemberThank you Badly. I appreciate the help. What I have decided to do, because I just don't have time to study all the coding is to just the set the content type to "show content limit". This shows a link "Continue Reading". So that pretty much solves that problem, although eventually I'd to do something more elegant.
Thank you for the links to the CODEX. I've read through them, but probably won't mess with them now. Later on I might hire someone to set up a few things. But it certainly helps to know what it is that I'm asking someone to do. So the reading and having an understanding is good. Thank you.
All the best,

MemberThank you Moody,
I know how to do the text widgets so that they are arranged across the page in a grid. The theme is great for that. With what you are suggesting would be that I choose three posts to feature and then they are fixed and the FrontPage will always show those three posts.
What I need is to be able to show the three most recent posts. So it's dynamic not static. That's the power of WP. 🙂 That's why I switched to WP.
I'll keep trying to see what I come up with. And thank you for the idea of building what I want in the visual editor and then getting the HTML. I'd forgotten about that. I use a plugin that is really great and very easy to use called Thrive, but it doesn't work on the Frontpage of Altitude Pro. So I'm having to struggle with the HTML. Good tip. I do very much appreciate it.
All the best,
Ednhed
MemberHi Moody,
Thanks for dropping by my little problem. I appreciate it.
OK. You're definitely right about the tutorial not saying to use the Featured Post widget. So that could be the problem. But how in the world would I use a text widget to create a featured post? I mean, I'm new at all this.
Also, a moderator in this thread, suggested that I use the featured Post widget, so I figured it was OK to do.
Any other insights or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I don't even know how to ask the right question sometimes. 🙂
All the best,
Ednhed
MemberHi Mike, The Genesis Featured Post widget is in FrontPage2 area.
Hi Moody, Yes, I've set up the FrontPage according to the setup instructions. Of course, I could have done something wrong. That's always a possibility. 🙂
Thanks for the help guys. I do very much appreciate it.

MemberThank you Andrea. I appreciate the help.
I got the three widgets to line up next to each other, but now I need to see how to make them look right, the image sizes etc.
I'm studying the beginners guide you mentioned but the info is limited. Can you recommend any other resource that might help me set up the image sizes I need, featured image sizes, and the whether to use a summary or content on the featured post section.
I'm having trouble with the look and feel of the featured posts.
I don't know how to make the headline text smaller font, etc.
Thanks for the help. I do appreciate it.
All the best in health and fulfillment,
Ed

MemberHi Andrea,
Thanks for the help. I switched to the Genesis featured Post widget. Lots of options. Where can I learn about how to use and customize the widget? and where can I find info on the differences between featured widget and recent widget etc. Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.
All the best,

MemberHi SavvyJackie. Thanks for the info. Sounds complicated. What would I need to do to add a search icon with its entry field next to where the hamburger menu. Here's a rendering of the idea:
Any ideas? I'm not so good with code, so pointing me in the right direction would be helpful.
Thanks a lot.

MemberHi Savingatthelake,
I now use Notepad++ to avoid strange things creeping into my code. It's got a plugin that I use to compare one file with another one. It has been a tremendous help to me as I make changes. I can go back and compare my css or php file with the original theme files or compare them with the most recent save.
All the best with your site. You're doing great. And it looks like a lot of work, keeping up with all the weekly sales.
