    Hi Andrea,
Thanks for answering. so I did wipe out all my customizations unfortunately, but luckily i had a backup.

I do think that once upon a time in the past I created a child them of a Genesis theme, so a grandchild theme. Am I just imagining that ? Would it have been impossible? I tried to do it this time but it wouldn't let me because I got a message that Minimum Pro was already a child theme. But, I think this is something Studio Press ought to look into (allowing or facilitating somehow) because we don't want to be stuck with just the original theme in every feature. For instance the customization I created was to have a different banner image on each page, instead of one image for the entire site. That's a pretty big change, and when I pasted that code into the new Minimum Pro I got all sorts of fatal errors. I noticed that the new Minimum Pro shows a thumbnail of the backstretch image, and changed the name from "Background" to "Backstretch." That's why made me think I needed the new version - because it *looked* like significant updates. And I wanted more control over the backstretch image.

Thanks for all your great products!

Yes I agree with Marcy. And, this is a WordPress issue, not a Genesis issue. The tags are stripped to remove the risk of the excerpt containing - say - one <div> tag which could break the whole site. So it's a kind of idiot-proofing.

But, this is a real pain and I wish that the WordPress developers would figure out a way around this. Excerpts are REALLY useful and we should be able to use them in sidebars etc, so we can link back to the full post (which is what the default title of every post links to). With this tag-stripping limitation, you have to link to a SEPARATE post on the same topic if you want the piece in the sidebar to display properly.

How could I modify it to work with Genesis? (that's probably not a simple question!!). I'm not much of a programmer. 🙂

I just had a look at the link you sent. I appreciate the tip on how to customize by hand, and I may try that. But, it is a pretty daunting task if you want to create a lot of variety with different sidebars such as in this Thesis site: http://www.alchemyofmovement.com which uses the 'Content Aware Sidebars" plugin and this other site which also uses it even better. http://solarcommunities.org/recognition-program/ This plugin is a dream. It is so flexible. Wouldn't there be some way to copy it and modify it for Genesis? I'm still baffled why such an obviously useful thing doesn't exist within the Genesis tools.

    All the best, Lili

    Hi Brad,
Thanks for responding and for the suggest of that other plugin which I will try. The site is at http://www.communitycycles.org/wp and I want to be able to display different widgets on different pages. Right now the "Primary" or default sidebar is on every page.

    Thanks, Lili

Genesis Simple Sidebar is not working for me either. It says that is has not been updated for 2 years. Is this true? I have it on a normal "Page" and I see it on the sidebar of the Admin for that page. The drop down menu shows this new Sidebar I've created and I chose it to "Replace Primary Sidebar" and then NOTHING HAPPENS.
Please let me know if there is some glitch we don't know about so I don't waste any more time on this. I'm using a customized version of Genesis Sample child theme.

I like "Content Aware Sidebars" plugin which offers far more flexibility, but then it doesn't work with Genesis framework. 🙁

This is a really basic, important functionality and I'm frustrated that there is no solution.

    Hi there,
I've launched the site so it's on http://www.brekhustile.com. I think I know what the problem is - loading up a larger logo header file displaced the "right header" area so that the social media icons are forced to sit below the header logo. When I got rid of the social media icons it was fine... so I'll have to do some tweaking so I can put them back.

    Thanks for looking though!!

weird. for some reason that didn't happen. I did the import twice and checked the box. could it have been because I had started uploading my own images already and created a slider? I just wanted to see how the "official" version would have been created.
