    For some more context - I've had some progress at least getting just the category page to work by creating at category.php file.

    You can see on http://test.younghouselove.com/category/random that I've sort of got the looked started (very roughly) thanks to this tutorial: http://www.matthodder.com/add-masonry-effect-to-genesis-blog/

    But it's not as dynamic as I'd like. I've also looked at these tutorials, but can't figure out how to make any of them apply to just the category.php page - not the whole front page of the site.

    Thanks for that link. I had found that previously, but was having trouble executing Step 3: Add Masonry Loop to Templates. I am trying to make the modification just to a category.php file I created in my child theme.

    I had this same question and found the Pin It theme you mentioned nutsandbolts. Does anyone know how to get that theme to just show on certain pages? I don't want my whole blog to display that way, but would love category pages for display that way.
