We have an advertiser who is having trouble viewing our site (http://oakridgetoday.com) properly in IE 10. I haven't asked her to check her resolution settings yet or checked to see whether she might have Compatibility View turned on. But our site does display properly for her in Chrome.

Has anyone else had recent problems properly displaying a Genesis-based website (we use the News Pro theme) in IE 10?

    Thank you,

    Thank you both very much.

Brad, for several months, I've been wanting to insert ad widgets between post excerpts on category archive pages. But I wasn't sure how to insert a different widget after different post excerpts, for example, widget #1 and #2 after post excerpt #1, widget #3 and #4 after excerpt #2, etc. I knew I needed to use a post count somehow, but I wasn't sure how to do that. Now, I have a place to start, thanks to your code. Thank you!

The main reason I want to do this is to get the ads higher in the content flow when our website is viewed on a mobile device, especially a smartphone. Right now, too many of our ads are in the sidebar, which drops below the main content area on a mobile device. And I'm concerned that too many mobile readers might not be seeing those ads, so I'm trying to improve their prominence and effectiveness.

Never mind. Synthesis/Copyblogger has resolved the issue. I want to thank them for their help.

    That's correct, Andrea.

justjimmy, I used the Header Right widget area that comes with News Pro.

I successfully upgraded from the News theme to News Pro and was able to duplicate and modify the home page widgets to create more sections.

Take a look if you like: http://oakridgetoday.com.

    Thank you.

Thank you, Andrea. I appreciate it.

I do have the Genesis Sidebars installed, but since I've mostly added sidebars through hook positions, I've usually added them through the functions and home files.

I take steps to keep page load times down, including keeping ad images and news photos at or below 60kb and 80kb. I'll check into external requests and appreciate your tip on that.

Since posting my questions here, I got the impression from a post by Brad Dalton that an unlimited number of widgets could be added to a StudioPress child theme. (See http://wpsites.net/web-design/flexible-responsive-widgets-template-for-genesis/) So, between your reply and his post, I presume what I have in mind should be okay.

    Thanks again.

Thank you, Summer. That's kind of what I expected, but I wanted to be sure before I buy it.

A follow-up: I had to use the visibility feature on the widget to show the commenting guidelines only after posts. Before I modified the visibility, the commenting guidelines were showing between posts on archives pages, which I didn't want.

Still tweaking the styling a bit, but overall this worked.

    Andrea,

I was able to move our comment policy right above Disqus by setting the priority level to 1.

    Thank you for your help.

Thank you, Andrea. I'll try both resources. (I've found both websites to be great resources in the past. Thanks, Brad and Nick.)

Andrea, I wondered about the numbers and whether they set a priority. I noticed there is a number 9 in the News theme's After Post Ad function in functions.php.

I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again.

    nutsandbolts,

Sorry, I forgot to mention the other hooks I've tried. I have tried genesis_before_comments, as well as genesis_before_comment_form, genesis_after_post_meta, and genesis_after_post_tags. None of these worked either.

I'm wondering if there is some other hook I should try or some hierarchy that I'm not aware of that would affect the placement here.

    Thank you,

    John

Thank you for the quick response, Carrie.

All of our other ads are also served with DFP, and they seem to work okay on the responsive site. The DFP code is inserted into text widgets in the primary sidebar and in the content area. Of course, the largest ad size we've run so far has been a 300x250, so it's not clear to me if the ads are actually being responsive or we've just not run into any issues because the ads are small enough.

I'll do some more research and let you know what I find out.

    Carrie,

I took a look at your website yesterday and was impressed. I have a question for you if you are able to help.

We're using Google's DoubleClick for Publishers to serve ads. I added a 728x90 ad between the nav bar and content-sidebar wrap yesterday by registering a new sidebar and using the genesis_before_content_sidebar_wrap hook and a tutorial from Nick the Geek. It worked well.

There's just one problem, though. I haven't figured out how to make the 728x90 ad responsive. I don't think the AdSense code you mentioned above applies since we're using DFP. I tried adding the .before-content-ad class to the box-sizing responsive rules (we've added a few to the default rule) that apply to .content-sidebar #content, .content-sidebar #content-sidebar-wrap, etc., but that didn't quite seem to do it. The 728x90 shows up fine, but it's widened the screen so that I need to scroll from right to left on my phone to read everything.

Do you have any suggestions? Our website is Oak Ridge Today. It's at http://oakridgetoday.com.

    Thank you,

    John Huotari

Good news. I resolved the problem myself. I checked the settings on my smartphone, and it turns out I had accidentally disabled JavaScript. I enabled it, and the images are displaying again.

Thank you, Susan. I'll try it.

I'm having more serious problems with the slider now. It's not displaying properly at all, displaying text and images vertically down our main content area, on top of existing content.

I removed it from our site and tried reinstalling it, but that didn't seem to help. I updated some plugins before this happened, but I can't remember which. I thought the updates might have caused the problem. I'll pay more attention from now on when I update and wait until late at night to do it.

I did notice the slider has not been updated since July, and I'm wondering if that could be a problem as well.

Anyway, I'll see if I can fix the display issue because I like the slider.
