    Hi Brad
many thanks for taking this back up with me- and getting back to me. Where I am on this is, well a little confused at to placement of code i.e. where to specifically place the code ....I looked at your instructions in the latest link http://wpsites.net/web-design/custom-header-images-with-a-default/

In there it said your function php file hence so do I paste this at the top OR at the bottom etc? of this file?

Right now there is various bunch of code for the header image in the themes STYLE sheet where it appears on every page next question, so what do I specifically do to that - anything?

Do I need to delete anything there , change anything etc?

If you can kindly guide me on that Great ....and I think the plugin you mentioned Advanced Custom Fields plugin and copy the settings looks easy so hopefully can try this and will use it to apply and have different headers for different PAGES using the plugin by the looks of things . Oh and they will all same size anyway.

3rd Question I am happy with the existing home page header image to be still applied to the home page how do I keep that for home page and maybe several others?

    look forward to hearing back

    Jenny

I too want to have a different Header Page image one for home page and various others MAY at times be different for CERTAIN other pages etc.

I am a complete newbie to all this hence please bare with me and doing all this code (I normally run a mile!)-:
Could you/someone kindly let me know specifically what the code is to use then to accomplish this...and where specifically I paste it in is it my style sheet or php ?
NOTE***We use Lifestyle theme version 1.0 i t has already some code on the actual style sheet and that image header right now is on EVERY page (I presume I need to delete this code ? and ONCE a new one given to me correct?- hopefully on reading this post.

    SECOND QUESTION
So let's presume the style sheet say has the right code etc someone here gives me , When I create say a NEW page or ones I already have My other question is ....What do I need each time to ACTUALLY do, in order to get it to display whatever header image I actually want ?

For example i.e. I may want the same home page one or indeed others on certain other pages or simply some pages may have its own unique one?
Hence what do you do each time to have this happen?

    many thanks!

Hi Robin firstly thanks for replying however still none the wise to my SECOND question IF, we did want to upgrade to lifestyle 2.00 What is the BEST way to go about doing it etc ...and the things in that I mentioned please read....

So far as Custom CSS ooops Sorry Robin , that link you shared went way above me its code talk these folk on the link were all saying and his code thing you put in went right over my head!
(add the code he gave to your child theme's functions.php file.
Hmmmm well where exactly would that in that be placed at the bottom at the top ..etc HE NEVER SAID!)

PLus know idea HOW to go about and create a custom.css file with all of your customizations ... let alone with all the customizations in them that were done to our lifestyle theme version 1.0 site at the time and finding each and everyone that made the site it now looks and then how to go about pasting each code we did find in the exact right order into a custom .css file
(yes I know one can do the firebug show element tool thing - but it is still a matter for me personally knowing which exact code to choose and lay them all out into a custom css. file

    Oh well....

    Hi Brad

you said here is the solution and a link...this lady did not seem in the end to do it though?

plus I have no idea specifically what code I would use and goes where, Also am I using simple hooks, or something else such as another plugin to set things up and do all this?

The site is TheUltimateTherapist (dot com) the header is the one at the very top pointing etc, we would like different headers for certain pages other then same on the home page throughout the site.

    Thank Jenny

    Hi Brad,

Please appreciate I am a total newbie to do with any coding ! (Someone way back did the site for us to customize at the time its borders, content width far wider and other things)

Hence the plug WOULD have been ideal for me BUT you think my lifestyle theme version 1.0 will not work with the header plugin then?

If so Darn-it would have been sooo much easier

So hence I have read your Your information link as above "You can use CSS or PHP and a custom field if you want to easily add more in the future". (http://wpsites.net/web-design/add-unique-header-images-using-custom-fields/)

Sorry it went right over my head! Could not work out what SPECIFIC code is the right one for me to add (and where to place it or use Genesis hooks maybe better choice?) in my outcome to ultimately do this:

Have the home page with it own header and yet this may also be repeated across several pages etc BUT then other pages (which ones have no idea till we do them) would have their own unique header image (all images will be same size throughout though - keeps it simpler)-:

How would I then also once a new page has been created or ( existing version) to tell it to now USE a specific header for that particular page?
(I get I have to upload header images and name them how do Then tell a page to use THAT specific image?)

    many thanks Jenny

Firstly Brad, we don't want to update Lifestyle 1.0 theme to next version - WHY?
because a heck of a lot of custom work and time was done to this and a few other sites also using lifestyle 1.0 and its looks completely different when we tested it a as live test in 2.0 version stuff frankly got screwed up all over the place and would thus mean hours doing all the site starting right over!

We do need numerous headers for different pages How many? Gosh no idea it add hock as and when we feel it fit to what we have and new ideas/pages...any ideas we can do then to have different headers?

I found this plugin for genesis that hides the page or blog title name http://wordpress.org/plugins/genesis-title-toggle/
and you then add what you were going to within the content area instead for the look I mentioned to page title h1 tags and ability to do them two sentences above each other and different colors
    (http://www.peterfieldhypnotherapy.co.uk/stress_hypnotherapy.html (its not wordpress site)

I have played with it Using this plugin apparently seems to do the job!

***NOTE From my research you STILL add your title page though (for page url, menu structure, etc) but the plugin hides it from being seen as alive view ....so you simply now just the one you did in the top of the content area gets seen and simply use the heading 1 tag in the drop down and this should be fine

I would appreciate anyone's feedback though on this and using the above plugin

    Hi Gary or anyone...

Still needs some help here as still not sorted showing several paragraphs etc working for me....

Firstly tried doing the add more tag via te tool bar  button where I wanted it to show a few paragraph and they click more

Hmmm, well that never worked it showed only one very short paragraph and not  more where I had selected it. in the blog post page....

So even tried  adding the actual code itself manually <!–more–>     and this too did not give me and additional further blog archive content let alone none of it shows and bold formatting. (added it in html tab   or now called the  text tab)

I noticed over in the   Content archive displays, via the Genesis Theme Settings. you have the option of:

the limit content to (number of) characters  (of which I played with see  my comments 3rd bullet down)
'Display post excerpts (by me choosing that option that did NOT show any content at all!)
Display content and if you use this option it evens tells you: "Using this option will limit the text and strip all formatting from the text displayed"

I noticed all the paragraph end up as one complete block of content, no bold and looked awful!

*** so still stuck here Gary or anyone, Would be nice to show  a few paragraphs and its bold sentences inserted  in my BLOG archive  and read more  placed where I want them to then do that to read  its full post etc...(as per this web url  at: http://kendallsummerhawk.com/

I have not added any code ( so far to any of my files php etc) If it seems I may have to add some code,....please let me know what  specifically and where about on what file.

    Many thanks

    Jenny

    Hi Susan,

many thanks for getting back to me I did mention which theme I was using   it was stated just above my thank you bit at the end  in my post  on the forum...anyways  its Lifestyle theme.

Its my  partners  Craig's site (one of several sites)   the url is http://www.theultimatetherapist.com this  is a work /website in progress and some of the posts are just test posts right now for the blog side of things Susan you will see in our  menu then blog top right

I got the authors  name to show up in full Now  in the Blog page thanks for that...

all that's left is these few things to figure out:

1)would like it to have written by xy  instead of  right now it just  has by.on the blog

    2) if you takes look at this web url  at: http://kendallsummerhawk.com/ and her blog link in the menu and  notice Kendall's part posts on her main blog  have  numerous paragraphs then read more ( I would like to do similar instead of just a few sentences)

and  finally what would be great is  this please Susan:

notice  her words here and there in bold etc just in the blog page itself then you click read more -  how do I also get to do this please?  (http://kendallsummerhawk.com/blog/  )

I know how to format words make them bold etc  and do this over in the actual post ITSELF  BUT how do you carry that bold and formatting   use of words back in the main blog like she did etc,  and then you click her read more and see it all in full.

When I made some words here and there for the main post bold  It did not carry through for me over at the  blog page notice: http://www.theultimatetherapist.com/blog-2/ (and  see  the:  Test post Craig depression post,  it's missing bold text and our audio player)

yet when you click on that post just mentioned  and read more...well as you can see  text right at the start are infact bold here and there

so How would you also have the audio player show up  like Kendall has done for her preview of the post ?

have bold text  carry throughout the blog as set in its main post

how do I get to   edit the words  and use "written by"  instead of:   by  (which ours right now is)

get more paragraphs to show up in the blog several then click more etc

    many thanks indeed Susan,

    regards Jenny

ps I  want to disable comments on PAGES I just noticed on pages of our sites at the end of content you can leave a  comment is there an option not to always have this for each page?
