emasaiParticipant
Overall very nice. I have a few suggestions:
The initial header, menu and logo get a little lost with the white clouds behind them, I would doctor the background image to just have the blue sky behind the header.
The "Child Hunger" section with the tray getting cut off looks a little strange, I would make that image taller.
The "Backpack" image is much too tall, the interesting part of the image is the boy's face.

Lynne emasai.comemasaiParticipantYou could add an extra widget to the footer.

Lynne emasai.comemasaiParticipantUnless you are comfortable tinkering with functions.php and style.css I am not sure page builders will fit your bill.
Here is a tutorial on how to add full width fluid divs.

Lynne emasai.comemasaiParticipantSo did I, so I never use it, instead I use Soliloquy which has way more possibilities, but it is a paid plugin at $19 a year which means you also get support and updates. It's well worth the money and very easy to use.

Lynne emasai.comemasaiParticipantThe 5th item in the guide says "Customize colors, menus & header/logo", click on that link and when you get there scroll down to #2. That tells you how and where to add your logo.

You could add a slider into the hero area widget.

Lynne emasai.comSeptember 19, 2016 at 9:57 am in reply to: How to change background image opacity/transparency? #193365emasaiParticipantThe tutorial is pretty well explained with Code Pens illustrating how. Basically HTML goes onto your page (in Text view) and CSS goes into your style.css file.
If this is too complicated you could try reducing the opacity of your image in a photo editing program, before adding it to your website.

Lynne emasai.comemasaiParticipantIt is responsive but only at 320px, there are some intermediate widths that need adjusting, so you need to add some css into the media queries at 600px
.title-area {
width: 100%;
float: none;
}
and
.site-header .widget-area {
max-width: 100%;
}

Lynne emasai.comemasaiParticipantPersonally I like Soliloquy slider, the paid version is $19 per year. As you pay for it they also give you support should there be a problem.

Lynne emasai.comemasaiParticipantI would think the easiest way to find out, is to deactivate the plugin and then see if the site is working correctly. If it doesn't then just reactivate the plugin and no harm done.

You can also add a text shadow in css to the text to make it more visible over an image, but that really doesn't look too good if there is a lot of text.

Lynne emasai.comSeptember 17, 2016 at 2:41 pm in reply to: move mobile icon to the right of my sample logo – not below? #193296emasaiParticipantNot easy if you are not well versed in css, but doable. It is a matter of adjusting several elements in the media queries. That being said, if you place your mobile menu icon next to your logo on small 320-360px width phones, your logo will be practically illegible especially as the grey is very pale.

Lynne emasai.comemasaiParticipantThat is the Genesis icon, if you want to add your own, go to Appearance > Customize > Site Identity > Site Icon and upload your site icon there. Bear in mind this is not a logo, it's usually just a square icon or letter, such as the G.

Lynne emasai.comSeptember 16, 2016 at 9:12 am in reply to: When does theme modification become a custom theme? #193241emasaiParticipantMy 2 cents would be if you have heavily modified the css, added functions and js, so that the theme no longer looks anything like the demo, then I would consider it a custom build.

Lynne emasai.comemasaiParticipantThe .site-description, reads "Your time matters, I can optimize it" but is hidden with the text-indent in this piece of code:
.header-image .site-description, .header-image .site-title { display: block; text-indent: -9999px; }
To get it to show I would rewrite and separate the 2 tags into the following:
.header-image .site-title { display: block; text-indent: -9999px; } .header-image .site-description{ display: block; }
If you want the text to be larger and on one line, you will have to increase the width, the font size and float:left the .site-description.
