I used this plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/genesis-simple-edits/ and then made the changes to the code within the plugin. I changed one at a time to make sure i didn't screw up lol. Worked fine and did what i wanted it to do.

Tom that replied seems to be pretty knowledgeable - is there an issue to doing it this way?

Brett,

I totally understand what you just asked. I was looking to get the exact same thing with the Sample Theme.

It does exist (as far as I know) in the Page templates for the Sample Theme. I purchased Metro Pro additionally and following the tutorial exactly when I check with that child theme it IS there. NOT with the child Sample Theme.

So you must to have an additional child theme to get a landing page template option. Hope that helped answer that.
