Are there any other good ones?...I tried to install this but it is not supported with the current version of WordPress.
chantal2012MemberOk thanks...it just sounds so confusing but I'll try it....
chantal2012MemberWouldn't it be easier to just upload the files to my desktop once i'm done designing and then download them via FTP to the client's site?
chantal2012MemberI was able to make the home title disappear with this code which I found online and it worked perfectly:
add_action('get_header', 'child_remove_page_titles');
function child_remove_page_titles() {
$pages=array();
if (is_page('2')) {
remove_action('genesis_post_title', 'genesis_do_post_title');
}
}My custom.css file is in my child theme...I used to work with Thesis and I really got used to working with a custom.css file. It was so easy, put changes in there and you could view the changes instantly. With Genesis, there is no custom.css file (Lifestyle theme) so I had to create one. I added this code to my functions.php file to do this:
add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'enqueue_custom_stylesheet' );
function enqueue_custom_stylesheet() {
wp_register_style( 'custom-css', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/custom.css' );
wp_enqueue_style( 'custom-css' );
}
Everything has been working great so far...however, I just noticed that not everything works when I put it in custom.css. For instance, once I finally got rid of the home title, I had to adjust the margins for the content on the homepage. I put this code in my custom.css file (which worked in Firebug):
.post-2.page.type-page.status-publish.hentry {
margin-top: 90px;
}
It didn't work in custom.css file but when I put it in style.css, it worked...weird...I was told not to put anything at the end of the style.css sheet because it would cause duplicate elements. I don't know which way is the best way to work when it comes to this.chantal2012MemberI'm not really familiar with PHP 🙁 . I was hoping to settle this with CSS.
chantal2012MemberNevermind...I figured it out...yay!!! The code that you gave me didn't work though...I ended up finding this code which did work perfectly:
remove_action( 'genesis_header', 'genesis_header_markup_open', 5 );
remove_action( 'genesis_header', 'genesis_do_header' );
remove_action( 'genesis_header', 'genesis_header_markup_close', 15 );
add_action( 'genesis_before', 'genesis_header_markup_open', 5 );
add_action( 'genesis_before', 'genesis_do_header' );
add_action( 'genesis_before', 'genesis_header_markup_close', 15 );Thanks for helping!!! 🙂
chantal2012MemberI added that code to my functions.php file but I'm not quite sure that it worked. It still appears to be part of the wrap. Also, what CSS code would I need to add?
chantal2012Member@Bill Murray - Thanks Bill...I'm trying to wrap my head around all of this and still trying to find the best way to work.
chantal2012MemberSo whatever I add at the end of the style.css file will take precedence over what is already in there? As an example, if I wanted to customize the background color for instance (just a simple example), I could add the following code:
body {background-color:#b0c4de;}
to the end of my style.css file and it will replace what is already in there (meaning that I don't have to search the line code)???chantal2012MemberI've got it working...I had uploaded my header.png file to my image folder but it wasn't working with css code until I actually went into Appearance->Header and uploaded again...I just find it was acting weird.
chantal2012MemberSo where would I put this PHP Code exactly? So assuming that I create a custom.css file, and put in this PHP code, I will be able to add css code to the custom.css file and this will overwrite what is on the style.css sheet?
chantal2012MemberAnyone know what PHP code I would have to use to integrate a custom.css file? I would like to have it set up so that anything that I modify in the custom.css file to overwrite anything in the style.css file.
chantal2012MemberBut if I customize a child theme beyond recognition (via the custom.css sheet), won't it install just as I've designed it?
chantal2012MemberThanks Susan...as for #2, if I email them my child theme and the Genesis Framework, isn't just a matter of uploading like any other child theme? I suppose I could just install it for them if that were the case...only takes a few minutes.
chantal2012MemberOk...just so i'm clear on everything....if I get a client who wants a custom blog design, I can use any of the child themes and completely customize it and sell it to him/her without buying another license? Does the client need to be set up on the Genesis framework himself or can I install it without buying another license?
Also, I want to sell "pre-made" themes for those who can't afford to pay for a custom design...when I sell these, I want to be able to just email them a zip file containing my pre-made theme (using a child theme). Can I also send the Genesis framework or does the client already have to be set up on Genesis?
Sorry for all the questions, but I want to make sure that I don't do anything wrong and that I'm following all the rules. I haven't used Studiopress in a while (I had switched over to Thesis) but I'm seriously considering coming back to Studiopress because Thesis seems to be harder to get along with that way. From what I understand, I have to buy a new license for each client which is the pits!
chantal2012MemberOk...thanks...but I still have a question....if I sell my own themes using the Genesis framework, do I have to buy a new license of each that I sell?
chantal2012MemberThanks Chris! That worked perfectly! My skills in CSS are quite limited...I'm trying to learn but I get stuck sometimes...can you explain to me why this had to be changed?
Everyone keeps saying "use Firebug", but I find it tricky to learn 🙁 . I should just take a full blown CSS course!!!
