Hi there.
Well, here's an idea which can make life a lot easier. I struggled with the same issue.
I understand the pretty pink background you placed BUT..........
Your site WILL look a little better without it so simply make the background white (#ffffff) and it will appear as if your page is wider. Yes, the nav bars will not be full width but still it's a lot easier than messing with the prose width.Charles
chalfantMemberOK, I just looked at the site with Windows 7 and it looks good, at least width wise but when I use an old XP machine (what I'm using to build site) it looks really narrow.
Does this make sense?

Thanks but...... The settings area and widgets don't display this anymore. There's no way for me to remove?
I'm thinking I have to go into the php files and delete something but don't understand anything about this at all.
Can I add some code in custom area to remove perhaps?Appreciate your assistance BTW......
CharleschalfantMemberOMG!
Only today did I start using SEO by Yoast and already I have good description and yeah!!! Google found me.
I've even found a section of my site on the first page of Google results.Just wanted to share my thanks again..........
CharleschalfantMemberWell, ok then. I activated it.
I greatly appreciate all the support I've been getting from everyone. You're all awesome and I for one look forward to paying it back once I know what the heck I'm doing 🙂
CharleschalfantMemberOh. I didn't know I should do that?
Me, I'm a noob and know hardly anything so I'll lookinto that.Thank you Ozzy so much 🙂
CharleschalfantMemberOzzy, thanks, this is how I placed it in custom CSS-
.site-container {background-image: url("http://thevaperstable.com/wp-
content/uploads/2013/07/wrap.png");
}I've tried it with a variety of space between the .site-container and { but to no avail.
Is there something else it could be?

(For some reason I have not been able to log in for the last 10 hours or so; it actually happens a lot!)Yes, I created a google+ account and have google analytics already on the site.
Interesting about your bio.
I was born in the states, grew up in London until 12 and then in Sydney for 25 years.......Anyway, appreciate your assistance
CharlesAugust 10, 2013 at 10:46 am in reply to: Best way to add XML Sitemap & Robots.txt to Genesis site #55488chalfantMemberI too am having an issue now with robots.txt.
Google says it can't display my site due to this file.
I can't find it anywhere; nor do I understand anything about it.I did a test in webmasters by uploading a file that google told me too but the issue is still there.
I installed WordPress SEO by Yoast but deleted it almost immediately after reading it would prevent the Genesis seo settings from working.
So, if that is indeed true, what is the answer for this?
Thank You, Charles

August 9, 2013 at 4:13 am in reply to: Remove part of the post header that says leave a comment #55184chalfantMemberThanks. I was going to post just before you did; I worked out THAT part but does anyone know how to shorten and change color of that huge long grey bar that shows date, author?
I spoke with Studiopress and they said to post it here.
ThankschalfantMemberBill,
Gotta love the National Guitars; wish I found an original 1932 version that was affordable, oh well..
Yes I am familiar with Chris........... Sad though. Thanks for your thoughts. I'm looking at newspapers so will find something suitable.
Still playing around with ideas but I think I'm on the right track but who knows!Back to it!
CheerschalfantMemberWell, these forums are certainly not much help at all.
Just seems very quiet.
Anyone have any other suggestions as to where to go to get assistance?chalfantMemberYou don't need to pay for this, nor should you!
There's plenty of people here that can do that. I can but it would take forever to explain as I'm farly new to all of this.Seems pretty quiet around here.......
chalfantMemberYes, I shall fix the home page as soon as i decide what to put there.
ThankschalfantMemberOK, I got an email that should solve this.
User error once again. You have to be sick to love this stuff 🙂
chalfantMemberWell, thank you so kindly sir! You're a wiz.
This assistance is greatly appreciated. It sure can be frustrating creating a site when you have little knowledge but you just gotta love StudioPress and all the great people here........
Not that many will read this but thank you on behalf of everyone who comes here for answers
CharleschalfantMemberMy own site is still in design stages but I have a couple of points to make.
Firstly, your pictures.
Try and have a consistent border around all your pics.
Some have a border and some not. Also, when I load you page everything is too far to the left; there is no border visable like the right side.
You need to add padding to the left side so it all looks consistant.Nice site though!
chalfantMemberOK, I did that and there was a lot of trash; all gone now 🙂
Now the About Charles tab also displays highlighted when you land on the page.
Is this changable do you know? Can I rid the tabs from displying highlighted?
Thanks for everything......
chalfantMemberOops!
Sorry about that! All ok now....... -
