MemberHow do I find out if my WP Genesis (AgentPress) website has the proper SEO files, like the XML Sitemap and Robots.txt?
I've been searching around, and it appears that WP automatically adds the robots.txt and Genesis has some settings for it as well. Should I manually be reviewing / locating the robots.txt as well? What about plugins for it? Or does Genesis do that?
I don't think that Genesis or WP creates a sitemap for search engines. Is this true? Should I be creating one myself or with plugins, or does Genesis do any of that?
I've been searching my files, and can't find either file anywhere.
Thanks for any advice!

MemberHi, I installed the XML Sitemap Plugin, but Google is still telling me that I do not have a robots.txt installed. Can someone offer help on this or point me to article which addresses it?

MemberYou can make a robots.txt file yourself and place it in the home directory. A typical robots.txt file would look like this:
`
User-agent: *
Disallow: /wp-admin/
Disallow: /wp-includes/
sitemap: path-to-xml-sitmeap.xml
`Another solution would be to remove your existing XML Sitemap plugin and install WordPress SEO by Yoast. That offers all of the features you're looking for.
Have a great day!

MemberI too am having an issue now with robots.txt.
Google says it can't display my site due to this file.
I can't find it anywhere; nor do I understand anything about it.I did a test in webmasters by uploading a file that google told me too but the issue is still there.
I installed WordPress SEO by Yoast but deleted it almost immediately after reading it would prevent the Genesis seo settings from working.
So, if that is indeed true, what is the answer for this?
Thank You, Charles

ParticipantIts simply a text file you upload to your root directory:

MemberThought I'd add this comment to this thread even though it's a little older.
RE: https://wordpress.org/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/
Just by chance I did a search with the search box on my site (using the Foodie theme currently). It served up what looked like a variation of the xml sitemap! What?
So I deactivated the plugin and the search results are now normal.
Is there another xml sitemap generator plugin out there (except Yoast) that's nicely compatible with Genesis? I'd hate to have to build a sitemap.xml from scratch, but I will if I have to.
Thanks!

MemberWe use the Yoast SEO plugin and get great value from it for our client websites. Here is an interesting article: http://wisdmlabs.com/blog/genesis-seo-vs-wordpress-seo-yoast-choose/
