MemberBrad, this worked perfectly.
For anyone reading this, instead of adding a condition to the existing After Post widget area, he gave me instructions on how to create a custom widget. It shows up on the Appearance > Widgets page.
I swapped the hook with genesis_after_post_content and then added is_single, and now it display exactly where I want it.
This is brilliant. Thank you for taking the time to help me!!

MemberI could see a blue post that said "This reply is private." But it didn't email me the content or display anything else.
I'll contact you via your website.
I belong to Sisters in Crime, so I've read lots of discussions on changes in the book industry. I think she's wise to grow her business in that direction.

MemberHer book cover designs are fantastic. And I like your approach to website design. Your BookWrights.com website is fresh and clean. I'm doing something similar with my own website.

MemberI don't know anything about the theme company you referenced, but I would seriously consider StudioPress. There's really nothing knew under the moon when it comes to templates, but the backend work and support can really differ. You probably know this, but I have to say it: choose the company first, and the theme second.
My mom published her first mystery novel last August. I happen to like your approach to author websites. It brings a lot of focus to the book. My husband and I are starting a mystery series, too.
Could you please elaborate on what you mean by custom posts?
Cheerios!

MemberI wanted to add that while all the themes are great, I chose the eleven40 theme to work with. It has everything you need to create a nice website and can easily be designed to look like both of your websites. My own website, which is launching soon, looks nothing like the demo, but I chose it because it gives me lots of options for some of the other websites I'm going to be building.
If you offer websites for your authors, getting to thoroughly know just one template is a great way to go. You can save each child theme that you create based on that template as its own template, and then personalize each one specific to your clients' needs.

MemberHi there . . .
Someone who's an expert on converting websites to Genesis may chime in, but I wanted to offer some initial thoughts.
First, what you're wanting to accomplish with a widget embedded inside another widget shouldn't require a second widgetized area. You should be able to do this via HTML. Just drag the text box into the widget and add your code there. This would involve adding a div to wrap around the content and some CSS to get them to layer.
But the bigger question is moving to Genesis. Personally, I would focus on that first. Your websites are very light in terms of content, so this should be a fairly pain-free process for you. 🙂
I'd suggest starting with the website that has the least amount of content. That would be a great way to get started. Choose a StudioPress theme that comes close to what you're wanting to accomplish. If you're comfortable with CSS, they are pretty easy to work with, and the support is excellent.
I'd be happy to coach you throughout this process, at no charge. And others will probably contribute, too.

MemberOh, thanks for clarifying!
Actually, the After Post widget is really just a widgetized area that's built in to my theme. It might be a part of Genesis, I'm not sure.
If you go to the widgets page, you'll see on the far right the Primary Sidebar, Header Right, etc. It's listed there. Instead of using the Simple Hooks plugin, which I intend to delete, I'd like to use this widgetized After Post area.
But for some reason they've designed it so that any widgets in that area only display on the single page. I've typed in some text as a placeholder so that you can see this. My website is under construction, but I'll remove that while we work on figuring this out. Here's a link to my homepage: Hello!!
Please ignore the slow loading photo in the sidebar. It's just another placeholder, as are the four or five breaks just above the After Post box. I think some conditional tags are needed, which is easy enough, but I'm not sure how to write the function.
Thank you. You're a big help in these forums.

MemberHi Brad,
Thanks so much for helping me out with this. Which code would you like me to paste here?
🙂

MemberThere are two sources for the extra spacing.
The entire content area is surrounded by 20px of padding. And the pagination link has 20px of padding on the bottom. So stacked together, that space you're referencing is 40px tall.
You can edit this in the child CSS file. First, search for #content and remove the bottom content padding by setting it to 0 like this:
`#content {
float: left;
padding: 20px 20px 0 20px;
}`Then search for .navigation and adjust the bottom padding as needed. The 12px is just a suggestion.
`.navigation {
overflow: hidden;
padding: 20px 0 12px 0;
width: 100%;
}`Let me know if these instructions make sense. Thanks!

MemberAs I was hoping it would, using the pseudo class in my CSS preserves the drop caps in post excerpts. This is awesome. Archives set up as excerpts removes all HTML. So using span tags around the first letter of each post means no drop caps on the archive pages, and that really bothered me.
I'm very excited about this!!

MemberThanks so much!
It works perfectly. My only concern is browser compatibility with pseudo classes. His second step involves span tags that need to be manually added around the first letter of each post. That's how I've been doing it. He says span tags address browser concerns. But you can't do both. You have to either add CSS from his first step, or use span tags, or you'll end up with the first two letters as drop caps.
I did post a question about this in the comments section, and I also asked about this in reference to this article, which was written this year:
It looks like the first-of-type pseudo class works great in most browsers, but it only works in IE9. If IE9 is the current version, then lots of people may still be running IE8, right? I'd like it to work in IE8. I'll have to take a look at the screen shots in multiple browsers. If there isn't any kind of wonky code showing up in place of the pseudo class, I can probably live with that. But I did ask in the comments about Javascript and whether that might be a better option.
Of course, I haven't a clue as to how to write that code. 🙂

MemberWrapping the image in a div works. Add the border radius to both the image and the div, and then add the padding and border to the div for a circle within a circle. Just make sure your image is perfectly square.

MemberThank you for the recommendations. I've read some concerning things about Jetpack, so I'll give Contact Form 7 a whirl.

MemberAny thoughts on this? I'd sure love some guidance on how to do this.
Thank you!

MemberHi David!
This one looks great. I read all of the WordPress reviews and was impressed. The developer really gets involved and helps troubleshoot anything that comes up. It installed quickly and I'm finding it easy to work with.
Cheers!

MemberWhat I mentioned above does work, but I need to check on browsers other than Safari and see if there are any problems.

MemberSupport told me that the Simple Edits plugin overrides any functions code that I add to functions.php. I'm not sure why it would do that, but it does. That's why the Code Snippets weren't working.
So I removed the plugin. But the only thing that displayed under my post title was the comments link. The link was reflecting the change I made via the snippet. However, the date and categories aren't showing up.
I thought Simple Hooks would take care of this, but now I have two comments links displaying. So one problem was kind of addressed, but now it has a friend.
Hopefully they can help me iron it out. 🙂

MemberI'm having the same problem with the post-meta Code Snippet that's supposed to let me remove "Filed under."
I just submitted a support ticket, since I'm anxious to get this figured out. I'll post back here once I learn why these code snippets aren't working for me. 🙂
