MemberActually, I think I found an easy solution that I will post in case anybody is looking to resolve the same issue.
By using the blog page template on a page you get the same set up s the homepage. The settings allow you to decide which category to pull so if I set the new page as my homepage it should fix the issue.

Sticky posts don't really do the trick as all of the posts still pile up below
adding content through a plug-in does not bring in the great styling that makes this theme what it is

MemberYou know what we have here? A really good lesson in not having too much stuff open and editing at the same time! As you can see from my original post I did edit that but it had no impact.... Of course I had several CSS files open and I was hammering away on the wrong one getting more and more frustrated and embarrassed that I would have to come in here and ask this easy question.
Of course this means my other site is now a mess... better get on that.
