BelindaParticipantI just have mine titled as Advertisement.
My site is http://www.thetraininglady.comI've using the Focus child theme.
Is it the black banner across the top which has the link to your About page in it that you don't like or is it the area with your logo and the subscribe to blog feature that you don't like?
BelindaParticipantI can't see the sidebar on your site as yet so make sure you save each widget using the save button at the bottom of the widget area.
BelindaParticipantNow bare in mind I'm using a different child theme to you so I'm not sure if there are major differences in what menu items you have however lets give this a try..
When you are in the Dashboard go to the Appearance section and choose Widgets.
You will then see the Available Widgets in your blog site. On the right you should have a list of areas in your site that you can place the widgets. E.g. Header, Primary Sidebar, Secondary Sidebar, Footer. From the list on the left of Available Widgets, scroll to the bottom and find the Text one and then click and drag it over to one of the places within your site, I'd go with the Primary Sidebar and you will see a dotted line appear when you drag it over the top and then drop it and you will then see the Text widget will open so you can enter information into it.
Give that a try and let me know how you go. If you want you can send me your email address and I can send you some screenshots so you can see what I'm talking about.
I'm a WP newbie also so I'm still learning but I've set all this up on my site so this part I do know.
BelindaParticipantExact same way as I described above with the plug in, drag a text widget to the area you want it to be, sidebar, header or footer etc. Add a title to it if you like, can be any text you choose, then paste the Synchronous version of the Google Ad code into the box underneath the Title and save.
BelindaParticipantI used the Google Ads Master plugin. I then went into my adsense account, setup the ad and then in the code i changed the code type to Synchronous, i copied the code. Then you just need to go into your Widgets section, add the Google Ads Master widget to the sidebar you wish to have your ad and then paste the code into the field box labeled "Insert Google Ad Code". It gives you some customising options such as if you want the widget to have a title and then you just save and voila.
I did find that it takes up to 5 minutes after you create a new ad in adsense for an actual ad to appear in the widget area, so just set it up and if nothing shows up except the title just give it 5-10 mins and refresh your blog page and it should appear.
P.S. I just saw you have no sidebar on your site, are you going to add a sidebar? Otherwise you could probably add the widget into either the Header or Footer area.
BelindaParticipantgenwrock - thanks. I ended up making margins 0 but there is still some padding there somewhere which is pushing out the height of the header. Not sure how I get it to all move up even further though.
BelindaParticipant🙂 oh that's comforting... lol
I've even forgotten now where I went to make the Recent Posts show up like that after my post entry so I can turn it off or submit a help ticket to have Studio press look at it.
I don't supposed you can tell that??August 14, 2014 at 4:40 am in reply to: Header image is not transparent and shows white box around #118740BelindaParticipantI'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but it didn't work. I replaced the #fff with transparent and uploaded the image again and the header area turned into a shade of blue and still had the white box around the logo. Very frustrating.
BelindaParticipantThank you Brad. Found it and sorted and widget added to side bar.
August 13, 2014 at 7:30 am in reply to: Header image is not transparent and shows white box around #118558BelindaParticipantWhen i created the graphic I create a new blank image with transparent background and it was showing as transparent in the program I used but once I saved it any of the saved versions had white background.
August 13, 2014 at 7:27 am in reply to: Header image is not transparent and shows white box around #118556BelindaParticipantI have put the code into the style.css. I uploaded it by the Appearances > Header area.
BelindaParticipantI moved the widgets into the Footer Area #1 and that fixed the spacing issue but I've lost the disclaimer footer I had on the bottom of the site before and the formatting size is terrible. I guess I'll be going through the CSS to try to adjust it.
BelindaParticipantI just figured out that the first CSS class needs to be one-third first with no hypen between third and first. so that has fixed it a little but they are all squished up together on the left and not spaced out evenly.
BelindaParticipantOk I've done that but it hasn't quite worked.
If you want to look my site is http://www.thetraininglady.com and you'll see them down in the Footer 1 area.August 13, 2014 at 6:53 am in reply to: Header image is not transparent and shows white box around #118539BelindaParticipantBelindaParticipantThank you for the reply Brad. I think I'll leave this for the moment as it all looks a bit over my capabilities at present.
