Hiya,
Thanks for your input but this post references wordpress.com and putting posts on the "front page" and "asides" but I am creating the posts in the same way as with any other self-hosted blog and site I've worked on with WordPress so I'm not sure this is the issue,
KR
AlanaalanaburtonMemberActually, I spoke too soon.
If I use Genesis Responsive Headers and deactivate Simple Headers, it looks good on the mobile but then I have a dark blue bar at the top of the website at the top with no logo at all. If I activate both then on the mobile I have 2 sizes of logo overlaid on each other but the site on the desktop looks fine.
How can I combine the two??
alanaburtonMemberThanks Chris,
I am now using the Genesis Responsive header and it does work better than the other plugin I had. Do you know what I could use to get the menu sorted on the mobile? A "Genesis Responsive Menus" plugin would be great but doesn't exist as far as I can see! A mini drop down or menu across 2 lines would be good??
Thanks,
Alana
alanaburtonMemberThanks Andre, I shall definitely bear in mind for the future as you definitely need to guide clients these days - amazing how many think hosting companies do the same thing!! π The support service to me makes all the difference so I shall look at Lightningbase now as well
Cheers,
Alana
alanaburtonMemberHi all,
Thanks for the input.
After finally getting into the FTP I have downloaded the latest Genesis version 1.9.2 and uploaded that and hey presto everything is fine again.
No idea why 1.8.1 crashed everything and Namesco were totally useless in all of it so I'll be looking to ensure they are ditched come contract end.
Turns out Namesco settings reverted back to "disable FTP" for some reason so it took a while to get back into their incredibly unfriendly UI controlpanel, find the FTP settings and enable this again to then get it back up and running on Dreamweaver to sort out! They're also the only ons I know of who require a ftp1.namesco.net setting for website name rather than the usual http://ftp.jellybeansparties.co.uk settings that I would have presumed to use - is that normal?
Anyway, all sorted. Thank you π
alanaburtonMemberHi both,
I have the same problem on http://www.50shadesofmum.co.uk/
Each blog post I've done has the author link and it goes through to a 404: http://www.50shadesofmum.co.uk/author/50%20Shades%20of%20Mum/
I've created a 2nd user but ideally want to stick with my original admin one created and can see it has the spaces but I can't see where in my settings the spaces are being created as I have updated it in the User settings to display nickname publicly as: 50shadesofmum, user name happens to be just "shades" or display my name. Where is this showing or is it now just cached content that will go shortly? I've done a hard refresh CTRL+F5 but still showing that. I don't really want to change the posts admin to the 2nd user to see if that solves it?
I'm also using Yoast and originally had set the author page to no index, no follow, no archive etc. as it advises in the actual plugin settings but this gives me this 404 in my webmaster tools?? I'd rather no 404 than just following the advice there but surely the advice Yoast has would be to eliminate any of that sort of confusion/404s?? I have changed the settings now to uncheck the boxes as curtezriggs had done so the question I guess is, will it sort itself out or am I still missing something?
Thanks!
alanaburtonMemberThanks Nick, am going to try.
I don't have FTP access at the mo and the server bods (Namesco) are being entirely useless from what I am being told and say it has nothing to do with them etc. which obviously we know but they can do a backup surely. Anyway, that bit was being done by someone else so I'm not sure if they were being asked the right question but I shall see about the backup first and then try to get FTP access to sort the other bits.
I'm not sure how long ago an update was made but is there any particular reason why the Genesis update would have crashed if the WP version had just been updated? I mean, I know it can happen but are there are particular known flaws in this update?
Will see how far I get and update you,
Thanks again,
alanaburtonMemberIt wasn't immediate but yes, it's worked now!
All 3 browsers, font showing up in desired places.
Thanks so much!!! π
alanaburtonMemberAh!
I have just added the magic !important to the code I had not long added to the bottom of the CSS which now reads:
/* I HAVE ADDED THIS BIT FOR ENTRY TITLE*/
.entry-title {
font-family: "Mountains of Christmas", cursive !important;
}(so I remember in the future which bit needs to be added to get this) so another BRILL! π In IE now the font shows up in all the desired places, header, page title and sidebar. Result! Firefox and Chrome now have the font on the page titles too and the last thing missing is the font for the sidebars in Chrome and Firefox to show up. If the change makes it universal across browsers for the pages, surely it should follow the same pattern for the sidebar?? Leads me to think it's a cache/browser compatibility issue rather than anything else? Although that's pure speculation as in reality I have no idea! π
Cheers again,
alanaburtonMemberHi Carlos,
Thanks for that, it does change something!
At the moment there are different things showing on Firefox (which I use most), IE and Chrome.
In IE the desired font now shows up in the sidebar titles - BRILL! π
But - the page title still shows up in a font called Roughage I used before Mountains of Christmas but have since removed all traces of. Caching issue? I am CTRL+F5 though, no change or update and the change to the sidebar font was immediate, can I use the !important; elsewhere to get the page titles showing in that font too? (I've tried adding a few !important here and there to try!!?
In both Firefox & Chrome the font does change in the sidebars - but not to the correct one, not sure which one is coming up - I thought this was a Google web font - i.e. supposedly cross-browser friendly (?!)
Thanks again π
alanaburtonMemberI've found some other code in another post and I've tried adding it to the bottom of the CSS file to see if I could also change the blog post title font on the inner pages.
This hasn't worked π
.entry-title {
font-family: 'Mountains of Christmas', cursive;
}I also tried making up something new:
#sidebar .widget-title {
font-family: "Mountains of Christmas";
}.page-title {
font-family: "Mountains of Christmas";
}This didn't work either.
Any help please!?
Thank you
alanaburtonMemberp.s. Interestingly, now the "old" font that I first changed it to: 'Roughage' is now showing in IE but all traces of that have now been updated to the Mountains of Christmas font but neither font shows up in Google Chrome or Firefox and it's the Mountains font that is supposedly a Google web font that will show up in most browsers... maybe it all takes time??
alanaburtonMemberHi, I have managed to replace the Dancing Script with a font I found on the Google web fonts page with "Mountains of Christmas" that I quite like.
First I downloaded the font, uploaded to Windows and created an image using that font that I could use as the header >> all good.
Second I added the following code to be able to use this font and another on the site and put this code into the CSS file, following the structure of the other 2 lines there in Import Fonts:
@import url(http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Mountains+of+Christmas|Fredericka+the+Great);I then went through the CSS to change the font from regular and/or the Dancing Script to the Mountains of Christmas font.
This was going well until I got stuck with some areas of text. I have managed to change the font for the menu items as well as the blog titles that are seen from the home page.
I can't get/find the relevant code to change the font and add inΒ my: font-family: 'Mountains of Christmas', cursive; of the following;
a) the blog title on the individual specific blog page, e.g. http://www.50shadesofmum.co.uk/mummy-blogger/great-minds-think-alike/ (the words "great minds think alike")
b) the page title on the actual individual page: e.g. http://www.50shadesofmum.co.uk/about/ (the words "About Me")
c) all of the titles in the sidebar widgets in the right hand sidebar, i.e. "the mum", "my 50 shades", "from the blog"
NB, I want to keep the actual bulk of content in the plain font (blog post actual content, sidebar widget actual content) and just change the font for the titles.
I did try separating the initial code in the CSS into 2 groups so I went from:
/* Defaults
------------------------------------------------------------ */body,
p,
h1,
h2,
h2 a,
h2 a:visited,
h3,
h4,
h5,h6,
select,
textarea {
color: #342822;
font-family: 'Droid Serif', serif;
font-size: 15px;
line-height: 1.6;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
text-decoration: none;
}TO:
/* Defaults
------------------------------------------------------------ */body,
p,
select,
textarea {
color: #342822;
font-family: 'Droid Serif', serif;
font-size: 15px;
line-height: 1.6;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
text-decoration: none;
}AND:
/* Defaults
------------------------------------------------------------ */h1,
h2,
h2 a,
h2 a:visited,
h3,
h4,
h5,
h6, {
color: #342822;
font-family: 'Mountains of Christmas', cursive;
font-size: 15px;
line-height: 1.6;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
text-decoration: none;
}>> But that did nothing!
Any input would be fab!
Thanks again!
alanaburtonMemberI think I may have misunderstood your other post Charlie - I've changed the settings in the Genesis Simple Headers section to Advanced, and there changed the size to 800 x 100 which has now allowed me to upload a header image that is that size and is shown as that size.
It appears to have overwritten the background image that was there which accounted for the solid blue bar going across the screen but now the header image shows up on the transparent background I think it almost looks better!?
I'll probably resize it further to include a possible tagline or site description line within that header image at some pointΒ - or add something separate to the header right widget and then need to move that around so that it doesn't show up just right of centre, but rather, right over to the right but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it!
Thanks,
π
alanaburtonMemberNo, I haven't touched the functions.php file, I've changed the code in the CSS file:
#header {
background: #99e3d6 url(images/dark-bg.png);
margin: 0 auto;
min-height: 100px;
overflow: hidden;
text-shadow: 1px 1px #111;
width: 100%;I don't think I've "enabled custom header functionality" etc. - I get the impression I should modify it here? I couldn't see any 'numbers' to change in there but I did in the CSS so I did it there....
Thanks π
alanaburtonMemberThank you both -
I now know where to change the content box itself, thanks Anitac
But yes, I would like to change the Dancing Script font for the titles braddalton. It would be for both the left and right sidebars.
Thanks,
February 26, 2013 at 5:14 am in reply to: Get Menu Width To Expand To Fit Whole Page Content Width #22870alanaburtonMemberHi Chris,
In the end I added more items to the menu to get it to go across with it so it's been fixed, albeit not the original desired way but will keep like this on this site.
π
alanaburtonMemberAh brilliant Chris, thank you very much! All sorted now and menu background colour sorted.
Cheers π
February 13, 2013 at 2:03 pm in reply to: How to modify header to show up better in Agency Responsive mode #20131alanaburtonMemberWow, amazing, thanks so much Pumpkin!
Can't believe I didn't initially search for "genesis responsive header" given that there is a genesis plugin for most things! Am quite relieved!
Studiopress *ROCKS* π
Thanks again, I've uploaded the plugin and all works on the iPhone at least as expected so I'm hopeful for other devices too.
February 11, 2013 at 4:55 am in reply to: How to modify header to show up better in Agency Responsive mode #19569alanaburtonMemberSo far I have managed to try a few things to get the phone number and price showup on the iPhone below the logo area.
1) Divide the header logo up into the 2 sections: the right hand side with phone number and prices which ended up being 383px wide. And the left hand section consists of the logo in the full size header of 950px but just with the phone number and prices removed from the psd file then resaved. (I initially tried getting 2 slices of header image to get 950px combined width but this just placed the logo randomly in the middle and then the logo sort of underneath it. It didn't work but maybe to get that working I'd need to play around with the CSS more but I didn't get it first time just now....)
2) Add the b) section into the Media library and add into the Header right widget.
3) Change the CSS for the Header right section to be:
#header .widget-area {
float: right;
padding: 0px 0 0;
width: 383px;
}
4) Add the full width header with the logo on, just without the right hand side elements, upload into the Header area of the Dashboard.
Voila.
The phone number and prices now show up on the iPhone underneath the logo BUT the logo still only shows up about 80% width-??
I'm sure it has something to do with uploading a header image just about max 600px wide and then resizing the area allocated to it in the CSS but I'm not sure which bit to change....
Any further advice?
Thanks
