Using a slideshow plugin (iThemes Displaybuddy Slideshow) and I would like the slideshow to be centered in this slider. (the images are not as wide as the website layout so I would like the slideshow centered, not left aligned as it appears now. How can I cause the slideshow to center in this widget area?

Well, you are using a third party plugin and haven't provided a link to the site where you have this in place. So it will be pretty difficult to assist you. The only thing I can offer at this time would be to modify the CSS that is in the plugin itself.

OK, I was using a 3rd party slideshow that I am very familiar with but doesn't have to be that one. What does StudioPress offer/support so that I can accomplish having 1000 pixel width images in a looping slideshow - where none of the pictures link to anything (just a slideshow display)? Their responsive slider appears to require using a portfolio or posts to pull images and link to those. I just want the image/slideshow centered in the hompage-slider widget.

You can use the Soliloquy slideshow plugin. There is a free Lite version in the WP Plugin Repository or you can purchase the Pro version here. You can add as many slideshows in varying sizes, etc.
