Change featured posts on home page to show portfolios and am using the Portfolio Post Type plugin

Would that be somehow adding the portfolio post type to the drop down of options within the featured posts widget?
I am really curios and am sure it is possible though I am a rookie with that level of coding
I would love to know and if someone could help, please let me know. I would be very thankful.
